Green Juice effect: Any ideas?

3 weeks ago, my daughter was diagnosed with T1D and since then we have recovered and started to deal with it.

2 days ago, i have given my daughter kale juice (green leaves) and surprisingly her blood levels were almost or between 80-100 all day. Previous to this her levels were always within the upper 150 and below 200. She also took extra snacks off of her scheduled times (every 4hours a meal and a snack after 2hours of any meal) but surprisingly the sugars were under 100 (120 last night).

Anyone has previous experience with this?

Following is the recipe, I have made. Given only 1 small glass (about 1/2 cup) of juice, one time:

a) 2 kale leafs
b) 1 small apple
c) Ginger about 6grams
d) 1 small cucumber
e) 1/2 slice lemon juice.

Sounds tasty and heart healthy. Not sure about it doing anything for a glucose lvl. It may be the simple fact that she is still on her "honeymoon" and the juice is not packed with any complex carbs or sugars. But my thoughts are, if it works, go with it

Barney: I was also under the same impression as you, but I have been seeing this sudden change since two days (Saturday with Kale, Sunday with Dill and today made it with Parley (didn’t checked her counts yet…)).

I’ll continue as long as it shows these results. I also have a Dr. appointment this afternoon, I am going to check with them and see what they say.

I have been making myself green smoothies for the past couple days, with kale as well, and it's amazing how much better I feel. I have so much more energy and my mood seems to be more steady, as well. Kale is an amazing food. And if it has positive results with your daughter, I say, keep it up!

Sounds like a healthy recipe. Ginger and apple go really well together so adding a bit of green to fortify it nutritionally makes perfect sense. I'm not sure how old your daughter is but if she likes the juice, and her numbers are good then all power to you. Keep in mind though that in the beginning she is probably still honeymooning and is still producing some insulin so her blood sugars will be reasonable.
I plugged in the recipe to a "recipe calculator" http://recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipe-calculator.asp and it came up with ~17 grams of net carbs per serving. But I am not sure exactly how many servings the ingredients make so I could be completely off. In any case kale is supposed to be a "super food" so why not ? There are some groups here the concentrate on nutrition and recipes that might be a good resource.
