Guess who was in my neighborhood today

I've actually seen them around several times in the past week or so, but always when I was driving so I couldn't get a good look at what all the text actually said. I was so excited when I saw the car parked today and could read that it was Team Type 1!

Wow, cool! What does Team Type 1 actually do? I see they are sponsored bySanofi. Is it a sports team with Type 1's on it?

They are a professional bicycling team. Actually I think there are several teams now, but they are all type 1's. From what I understand they raise money to send strips to diabetic children in Rwanda that can't afford strips. They are also trying to inspire other type 1's to take care of themselves. http://teamtype1.org/

The group that's been biking around my area is about 12-13 men. It occurred to me that I don't think I've ever seen that many type 1's together before!

Thanks for the explanation, Cason, very cool! Maybe you'll get a chance to say hi. I moved in November from the place where I started a Type 1 Women's Group and miss once a month sitting in a room with 10-20 other Type 1's. I've heard that going to Diabetes conferences is even more amazing...hundreds? more?

I read an article about them in a cycling magazine that sort of implied "now that you've spent $800 on aero bars, $8000 on a frame and $2500 on wheels, you should buy a CGM so you can tell when you are bonking..." to "straight" cyclists but then it said "sorry, you need a prescription". I only read a few issues MrsAcidRock picked up @ the library but I'm not that gonzo of a cyclist but the $$$ involved makes me think that paying cash for a CGM wouldn't be a big deal for a lot of those guys if they felt there was an advantage to it?

Not just type 1 bike riders, but *award winning*...they won the Race Across America against non-diabetic riders 4 times....and hold the transcontinental speed record.
