My name is Alyssa. I am 21 years old and currently going to a local community college for my associates before moving on to bigger and better degrees elsewhere. I have had Type 1 diabetes since I was 13. I was diagnosed in 2001 due to an environmental trigger. I have fought the disease and rebelled against it like so many have, landing myself in DKA more than I can count on my hand and of that I am not proud. This is always due to my lack of testing and ignoring shots and the disease completely.
Recently, after cutting through red tape and months of corresponding between doctors and insurance companies I have obtained a Dexcom blood glucose monitor in hopes of making me more aware of where my glucose is at all times. It has helped a ton and I have taken an increased interest in managing my health; thus, leading me here.
Well, HELLO!!! Glad to see you made it here! I just joined about a week ago (?) and I feel like I’ve been here forever. The amount of knowledge you can gain in a day here is just AMAZING! So anyway, welcome to the (rather large, and incredibly nice) family!
Hello Sweetie and Welcome. Glad to hear that you are moving in the right direction. Wish you the best.
who are you calling ho?
howdy!
I’m curious how it was environmentally triggered. I grew up in a place that was pretty polluted. I’ve never really figured out how I got Type 1 and am curious if it was from arsenic or lead or something. If it’s too private, my bad.
Nice to see you’re taking care of yourself. Every day is a new day sister.
Welcome, Alyssa! Way to go on your Dexcom.
