High bs before pod changes and basal rates

Hi, I was wondering if alot of omnipod users had high bs’s when a pod change is coming up, we have experienced this the last few times, i know there may be other factors but it seems like more than a coincidence, one thing i thought i could try was putting a little more insulin in the pod, we had a low resevoir alarm one time and he probably is using more insulin in general. Also i heard before of the 40/60 rule you should have at least 40% of your insulin coming from basal we have had some increases but some days his boluses really outway his basal more like 30/70 because we are doing alot of correcting for highs, with school coming up i do not want to do any big changes but probably need to increase his basal. any thoughts?

I would start with testing his basal rates first, have you done that yet? Once you have them where they should be you could test his insulin to carb ratio. Do you have the book Pumping Insulin by John Walsh? It has a lot of useful information. You could also google insulin pump basal rate testing for how to’s. I use the OmniPod too, and find my blood sugars are usually best before I change the pod. After I change it I usually have higher blood sugars for a while.

My bg will rise sometimes on day three of my set. I change every 72 hours. My Endo says it is due to absorption not being as good after infusing for three days and results in decreased response to the infused insulin. Perhaps you are experiencing this. The solution is changing the set at 2 days or 2.5 days
