Theres a woman here on base who is trying to enroll in exceptional family member program, well shes a diabetic. I messaged her to find out what type, th navy doc just told her hey you have diabetes test your blood this is how to take your insulin, heres your scale odios. HOW FREAKN STUPID AND HORRIBLE IS THAT!?! I am happy for my kid to see a speacilist and be able to have help from Josli center… but the military is literally screwing over their people!
She needs to get into TriCare so she can go to any doctor she wants to. My sister is an air force wife and she told me this morning that they get to choose what insurance they want so she went with tricare since her daughter has some developmental delays and needs special care. Plus she worries her kids might get t1 because I have it. The docs on bases are overworked and burned out and often do not give good care, I ought to know as these were the docs who “took care” of my diabetes when I was a child. I didn’t get good care until my mom took me to see an endo and paid for it out of pocket. It is sooo frustrating how little the military does for the people who defend our country and their families.
I wonder why the military docs differ so much. My son in law is in the Marines a friend also a Marine developed type 1. They had great care and they also put him on a pump asap. They have Tricare also but at first it was taken care of on base, they did the pump sent him to an Endo plus a CDE as well as classes. The only thing I can think of is base to base issues. TriCare is a must for any chronic illness.
Be well and be loved
Wow! You should have your friend call Tricare ASAP. She should also demand for her military doc make arrangements for her to go to a civilian endo.
I have Tricare, used military doc NP. NP couldn’t figure out what was wrong so she sent me to a civilian ENDO. I am luck because I’ll never live on a military base (knock on wood) so I’ll always be able to see a civilian,
thats what im trying to help her with. My daughter had to see the naval hospital and they tried to take her away from us for so called not having training to take care of her diabetes. then choc got ahold the doc and got her transfured.
I was lucky when my kid got diagnosed i took her to a civi er and they sent her to choc and then choc requested to be her doctor so now we are blessed to see civi endo docs. But shes 4’11" and 130. and they said she type 2. she says she doesnt feel good on the metformin.
yeah i dont trust the doctors period.
