I just got out of the hospital yesterday after having the right lobe of my thyroid removed. I'm still waiting to see if it's cancer. I was surprised they let my bgs get over 200 before I finally got insulin. And the diet said sugar free but was full of carbs. The funny thing is they kept telling me I had excellent control of my diabetes but I'm not sure what they were basing it on. This is my first and hopefully last hospitalization since my dx. I just have to say nobody seemed to know much about Type 1 Diabetes which is kinda scary!
As a follow up I looked at my discharge orders. They instructed me to take Humalog twice a day before meals. Now I get to pick which meal I can go wild about!
