How many lows did you have today?

Just 1 today.

three, all my fault I suppose.

well, due to being hypo unaware,i think it cant be counted
but usually i notice one or two a day

I have one today. I pump and because I have been tending my sick mom I did not get to eat till 4:00 and went hypo into the 60’s and felt like eating everything in the kitchen.

I understand “why” ,Dave, I just dont know “How”: I have a MM 522. It will only tell you the IOB ( Insulin on board, the .“active Insulin”)If you are intending to bolus, right? You have to put some number, whether the intended one or not, into the food amount to get the IOB displayed , right? Even if just to see what is active ? That has always been confusing to me. Sometimes I do not want bolus or to eat. I just want to see what is active at a certain time. How does the pump show that? CAN it?

Thanks for the tips, so much. I “revenge bolus” like you, at times, which sets me up for 40 to 200+ blood sugar swings…Not good for me, but I still tend to overbolus when high and I still tend to eat too much when I am very low…I can’t seem to stop the whirling dervish stuffing of my face at a blood sugar of 35 or 42. However, afterwards, when I am thinking more rationally, I can try the Dave’s Bolus 1/2 Over"eat"ment Protocol!!! Thanks!!

God Bless,
Brunetta

Very interesting Dave. I too eat about 900 carbs when I’m hypo (exaggeration obviously). But I usually do the same math as you but I don’t bolus half and end up hypo a 2nd time… Gotta try taking half…

Don’t know if I’m jumping into this convo late, or not, but it might be a good idea to keep 15g snack packs nearby or “on you”. That way, when you’re feeling better, all you have to do is count the wrappers!

haha- I was picturing you frantically opening the packages in such a way that they tore up into little bits and pieces. Then seeing you kneeling over the floor, trying to tape them together again to get an accurate wrapper count.

If I’m really wonky, I’ll do this with my little tube of 10 glucose tabs. Once I’m coherent, I count how many are left, subtract from 10 and viola! That’s how many I’ve eaten.

(as long as the tube was full to start with…)

None today, thanks to an occlusion. Been suffering a day-long high…sigh…

Managed to score FOUR yesterday! Egads!! My average is 1-2 per day.

Cheers, Mike

Mike somehow your 4 lows yesterday is making me feel better, I thought I was the only one going through a day of lows, I was sooo freaking depressed.

Today another low of 57 I had a juice box and a half of banana which brought me to a lovely 122, but then guess what it was time for lunch, ahhh!!!

I am back to logging bgs again something I don’t do, but I cannot handle all these lows, I have also changed my carb to insulin ratio, which I am sure will change again next week.

I have had a horrible day with 6 so far. I have been following my rountine and i guess its just one of those days.

but…you make me feel so much better to learn that I am not alone, sometimes I feel it is just me not being able to do a good job.

I sometimes think I have more lows on the pump, I sometimes think using all fast acting insulin is not the way to go.

Um, 2, no, 3. Though one of those lasted all night, while I was sleeping - so, overall, I have spent more of today low than in range (and about 10 minutes at 160). Same as most days.

I had three at work today.
one at 10:00
one at 2:30 one at 5:30
the lowest was 43 not a bad day.

Hi Karen,

My wife just start on Weight Watchers and I’m covertly doing it too. Needless to say, I’ve severely curtailed my food intake. It’s amazing how much less food I NEED than what I WANT. I think that’s the root of my lows.

Cheers, Mike

1…when I woke up…treated w/ Smarties (love how you can tailor the amount!) and back on track all day. Hope all are doing well:)

None today. So far I’ve had a couple of “borderline” (3.6 mmol/l - 4.2 mmol/l) hypos and two “real” ones this week: Monday and Wednesday and both before bed. Time to reduce my evening Insulatard, I thought. Reduced it by 10% on the Wednesday evening and was running high both at bedtime and again before breakfast on Thursday. Increased the Insulatard dose by 5% on Thursday evening and things seem to have evened out again. Until the next change, that is

One at 3AM. Ate 2 cookies and some milk. YUM! Haven’t had those in ages.

none! I was 94,82,89 6am,11:45am,5:45pm - lantus, metformin,diest,exercise
