how did you manage to get one from israel? do you know someone there? will a doctor there accept a US prescription? did you have to go in person?
You need to contact the Israeli distributor. You will need a letter of medical necessity, and someone in Israel to ship it to.
Contact me off list for more info. I think you can send me emails(?)
Why do you believe the warranty is 2 years? I thought it is only one year out of Israel??
Check out this page. originally Hebrew, but Google translate seems to work. Geffen Medical is a distributor for the Navigator in Israel
Warranty 24 months, the device does not stops working after two years and will continue to serve the patient.
The Freestyle Navigator is the only CGM that works for me. I added you as a friend. Would you be able to give me *some* advice on how to do something like this?
I have a rare disease that causes dehydration and causes autoimmune autonomic neuropathy, and I do not want further progression of the neuropathy due to my diabetes.
Assuming you are in the USA, you need to find a country that uses mg/dl (like the US) as opposed to mmol/l like the UK.
I think Israel and France use the US system. Germany I am not sure. They have software for both measurement systems.
Here are the problems with ordering overseas.
1. You need a local partner to get the items shipped to. They (the distributor) will not ship out of the country. Then your local partner ships to you (added expense)
2. No insurance coverage. It's all out of your pocket.
3. When I did this, sensors were available in the US and were covered by insurance. They no longer are, so you will need senors shipped to your overseas contact (added expense)
4. If things are covered by insurance, the insurer negotiates with the supplier to reduce costs. Without this leverage, you will likely pay list price (added expense)
5. Warranty service is a pain. Ask me how I know! You ship the item back to the country of origin (and may pay a duty to do so!). They then ship the replacement to your local contact, who ships it to you. (added expense)
6. You will get almost no tech support
So I cannot really recommend this to anyone except Bill Gates or Warren Buffet.
In order to get started you need to contact the local distributor in your country of choice. They will want a letter of medical necessity and money. I had to wire cash, since they wouldn't take credit cards.
Can your endo offer anything better? The Dexcom G4 is really not bad. Some things are better than the Navigator and some are worse. Of course everyone is different. If you have trouble with the adhesives, there are work arounds.
Thank you for your reply.
I have hydration issues, due to digestive problems, caused by this autoimmune disease.
The Dexcom G4 and the Medtronic sensors do not work for me.
I have contacted a source.
