Does anyone know how to purchase a new transmitter or know of someone who has one that is working and is willing to sell it?
I will be getting a new unit in Europe soon. I am pricing out, and it is $1700 US in Israel. that is for the complete unit, with the new 1 hour instead of 10 hour downtime. UK pricing should be available “soon”. Haven’t tried the other 5 countries where it is still available. Abbot is still giving the $2000 refund for your existing unit. I can price the extra transmitter in Europe, if you would like, or you can call Abbott, and try to get the buyback and then get a new unit, as I will be doing. Anyone here that has a transmitter would be silly to send it to you, when abbot will give them $2000. I am not clear as to if the new transmitter will work with the old receiver.
Thanks for the response. My question was directed to anyone that may have not been offered the buyback from Abbott or knows a place that is selling a new one. Do you know if the european version of the system works with the US sensors? If not how do you plan on getting new sensors here in the US? (assuming that you reside in the US).
Edgepark.com is supplying the sensors. I was getting them before my unit broke, and then switched to Dex, and now back to Nav sensors. it is the same billing code , so it was no problem to change back. I got the first set of sensors in anticipation of the unit, and wanted to make sure that would not be a problem. It was no problem at all. Who is your current DME?? Yes, the sensors work with the Israeli model, someone else has brought it back sucessfully already.
That is good to know. I have no problems getting new sensors, but wanted to make sure that they do work on the european version of the Nav before making a decision to switch. The downside of it thought is that you won’t have warranty coverage here in the US in the case something goes wrong with it.
The warranty will be from the European branch of Abbott, and the replacement unit will come from the California plant. also, it probably will be handled as if I were a European visiting here and it broke, and they will send it here. I know Julie from USA (who got hers in the USA, was in England in 2009, and her’s broke, and they sent a new one out in England, under the USA warranty
I’ve called Abbott last week and asked about the compatibility between the USA and European versions of the system to know if the USA receiver would work with the European transmitter as well as if the USA sensors would work with the European version and they told me no. The systems are not compatible with each other. If that is truly the case, then getting the European transmitter or the complete system here in the US would be a major pain in order to get new sensors.

There is a small [x] at the right side of the message to get rid of the double replies.
I can’t get rid of the repeat replies… When I click on the x it just goes back to the top of the page… Not sure if it is because I’m replying with my blackberry or it is something else…
Marcello : You are “channeling” Bill Murray in Groundhog day!!
I don’t understand your comment. Please be more specific.
Marcello: When you are logged in, and open this thread; On YOUR replies only, not on anyone else’s replies, the first line next to your face has a orange bicycle or spectical logo, the the word Reply by Marcelo (with the name only also in orange) the hours ago(or minutes ago) look at the far right side of this line, you will see a very small red x That is the x she is referring to click on it to remove the duplicate entry. all of this is above your comment. So easy to point to, so hard to verbally describe. I can see the light bulb going off in your head from where I sit
Thanks for the detailed explanation on how to get rid of replies. What you have described is exactly what I have done in my blackberry and it again doesn’t delete the reply and it just move the browser screen to the top. I was able to log in from a PC yesterday and it did work, meaning I was able to delete the duplicate replies and other messages that do not pertain to this topic of discussion but they didn’t save. I’m sure I must be doing something wrong here as this is the first time I’m using this site.
This site is using dojo - a javascript library. Most likely the BlackBerry can not successfully execute the delete script.
I have gotten a Freestyle Navigator from Israel. This is the 1.5 version. It IS compatible with US Sensors. The thing to watch out for is that some of the foreign units use mg/dl (like the US) and some use mmol/l The units are pre-programmed at the factory and this setting cannot be adjusted by the user.
If you buy overseas, you need to be supported overseas. This can be a problem. I just had to send my Transmitter back to Israel and the replacement transmitter needs to be sent to an Israeli address.
To get my Freestyle 1.5 system cost me a bit more than the $2,000 refund. There is the basic cost, in Israel they charged tax, and charged me for the cost of a bank transfer. Then in the US, my local bank charged me for the bank transfer, and then finally, there is the shipping from Israel here. I did not choose wisely. If I had chosen better, I would have come in under the $2,000.
But as I view it, I got a “free” unit and an additional 2 years of use due to a new warranty. I don’t know what’s “wrong” with Abbott (or is it wrong with the FDA?) but the Navigator is really great and the few of us still using them here in the US are big fans. 5 calibrations in 5 days, and really accurate. My fingertips thank me. Now if Abbott could just get their darned software compatible with Windows 7 ( or the Mac!)
The ironic situation is that my Israeli Freestyle was manufactured in California.
