Is the Navigator CGM available again?

Every now and then, I go to the FreeStyle Navigator site to see if they have gotten their sh!t together. Not sure if I’d switch from the Dex to the Nav again, but I’d like to have the option availabe. (The Nav was awesomely accurate for me.)

They used to have a notice up about the ‘supply problems’ they were having. Now that notice is gone. Does that mean that it’s available again? Anyone have the scoop on this?

I don’t think it’s back. They are selling the new version in some other countries, though, so it may be available here someday. Someday. That doesn’t help much, does it?

Julie,

From everything that I know, it is not going to happen anytime soon, if at all. Plus, they’ve had many layoffs - as per the Abbott rep, that stops at my doctor’s office. We can keep hoping though! P.S. I’m starting the MM CGM this week.

It is available in Germany, Israel, England, and a few other countries. If you go to the Abbott international site, there are contacts. Most of the countries you can buy without prescription. You can fill the sensor order here, it is the same DME billing code as the dexcom sensor, for insurance purposes. UNFORTUNATELY, Insurance cannot pay for the unit out of our country, but can pay for the sensors. ALSO, if you buy out of country, you must call the out of country support number. BUT, for those of us whom the Dex just doesn’t work, it is at least “somewhat” available.

Julie,

In the “gear guide” issue of diabetes forecast (did that come out in January maybe?) this last time, Abbott still had information available on the Navigator. However, in the edits of the next issue, the editors noted that the Navigator was not available and that Abbott had no release date for it.
I, too, have heard that all of the KAMs (key account managers) of the Navigator were either reassigned or were let go…so oddly enough, Abbott has a product that they don’t seem to want to promote, and they also seem to have zero sales force at the moment. You can still get sensors w/o issue, but if you want a transmitter or receiver (here in the U.S.) then you’re out of luck for the time being. I don’t know what all of these issues ultimately mean for the future of the Navigator, but like you, I do like its accuracy.
I don’t really understand it b/c they have version 2.0 available in the UK, but any time you ask an Abbott rep anything about the Navigator here in the US, they get all gestapo-like and start asking why you’re asking all these questions about their product that they “supposedly” want to sell in the US lol. I wish they’d pull their head out and figure out what the right hand and left hand were doing so that we could get some legitimate updates on their products…

Guys - I am here in the UK using the Navigator and its great - but I pay for it. I agree with you Julie (if you are still about) - asking Abbott about the sales and avaibliity is odd. They are selling heavily in Gemany . Have you got anymore insight ?
