I find interesting your use of Lantus when disconnecting from the pump. I would be tempted to try to use old fashioned Regular for this situation. It has a faster onset and peak with a shorter duration than Lantus. In fact, have you tried to simply give yourself a bolus, just before disconnection, that makes up for the planned missed basal insulin?
You seem to be able to use the Lantus successfully but still must be extra vigilant once you reconnect. Your thoughts?
This was something my endocrinologist and I came to an agreement on and it works well for me. I don't necessarily need or want a faster onset and the lantus dosage is quite small. We adjusted the Lantus to what my basal would be over about 3 hours. I don't always get low afterwards, a lot depends on how active I am while out on the beach and in the water. My goal is not to have an extreme elevation being off the pump and not having my basal infusing. We all have to find what works for our particular situation.
I think diabetes causes depression because we never get a rest from it. There is no vacation and no way to ignore it. It is relentless. I get tire and depressed sometimes too. Esp when things are not working out well with sugars.
My mood has improved greatly with pump and cgm though. I don’t have anxiety about taking a business trip and have to sleep alone. My biggest fear is to die in my slew from low sugar.
Actually the anxiety got worse before it got better though.
I found the alarms were worrysome until I got into the groove of it.
Also carrying extra supplies makes me less anxious.
There are waterproof cases. I have one for an early iPod that had a wire hole for earphones. Of course the new cases expect you to use blue tooth. My case is only slightly larger than my pump and it has not leaked in the 8 years since I bought it. I used an animas pump and now my mm pump. I’m afraid the rubber is getting old so I might need to consider changing it out.
I’ve been swimming at the beach and even at water parks.
For water parks they don’t allow shirts so it’s best to choose a site on hips or below belt line. And bring an extra set.
