Smartphone software so that users don’t have to haul around that monstrosity of a remote device. Seeing them reminds me of the blood glucose meters from the early 90s. Superior technology is available, why they don’t use it is a mystery to me.
-ability to enter BG values at a later time (not to be used for insulin calcs, just as a storage/recording device for BGs that I check using another meter besides the PDM when I don’t have the PDM around).
-shorter cannula to increase the areas of the body the pod could be placed (I realize this may be a physical impossibility b/c of the tissue structure and the way insulin is absorbed, but it would still be nice at some point
-increased visibility of cannula to ensure proper insertion
-vibrate option for sure…the beeping is super annoying and in my opinion, unnecessary at times
-decreased size of PDM
-IOB (insulin on board) feature for bolus insulin used at meals
-definitely vibration option or at least the ability to adjust the volume of those darn beeps!
-IOB (insulin on board) feature for bolus insulin used at meals
I ALSO THINK THIS IS ALREADY DONE… IF YOU TAKE SEVEN UNITS, AND WANT TO TAKE ANOTHER 5 LATER ON, IT SHOULD REMEMBER THAT THE SEVEN UNITS IS STILL IN YOUR BODY
-ability to enter BG values at a later time (not to be used for insulin calcs, just as a storage/recording device for BGs that I check using another meter besides the PDM when I don’t have the PDM around).
THIS SHOULD ALREADY BE AVAILABLE ON CURRENT PDMS… YOU GO TO “MORE ACTIONS” -> "ADD BG READING
It doesn’t remember insulin you’ve taken that you bolused for based on carbs. It only counts correction bolus information right now. So if you have a 1:10 ratio and eat 50 g carbs, then you’d take 5 units of insulin. 30 minutes later if you want to eat something else, it will say there is 0 u of insulin on board…It would be nice to know that insulin is still there (esp. if you have recently worked out and you’re more insulin sensitive, for example, among other reasons)
I know the current PDM has an area to add a BG reading, but not ‘after the fact’. For example I go for a bike ride for 4 hours and use a different type of meter (and leave my PDM at the house). When I get back, I would like to be able to enter those glucose values and times into the PDM for recording purposes, but I can’t b/c there’s not adjustment of time available (unless I get complicated and go in and suspend insulin delivery, change the time setting on the pump, enter multiple BG values that I got during the ride, then chance the time setting back and then resume delivery…obviously much more complicated than what I’d like to do on a regular basis).
I also remembered another thing after reading on the omnipod forum…I would LOVE to get rid of the pre-expiration alarm function on the pod (at least disable it if you don’t want it…I know it works well for some people, so I wouldn’t want to take it away, only get rid of it on mine
– be able to edit your current basal rate while your are running on a temp basal rate (currently I need to either: suspend then edit the existing basal rate then cancel the suspend (and while doing this I loose some insulin while I’m suspended), OR edit another basal rate then change to that one temporarily then edit the one that you were on, then go back to it) (annoying)
– when you copy an existing basal rate to create a new one, have the ability to paste it at a % more or less than the original rates (ie, I have a standard ‘weekday’ basal rate program. On those occasional days that I go to the gym, I would like to be able to quickly make a new basal rate program with all the new rates set to a %age of normal ‘weekday’ basal rate).
the reason that i was given for this was that people lose their phones all the time, you don’t want to miss place this thing. kind of like the bathroom key at gas stations, they tie to something huge so you don’t accidentally pocket it
