I was just curious if anyone has looked for or made a medical ID bracelet that is a little more tech oriented. I have looked for some sort of scrolling led bracelet, but haven't really seen anything that would be feasible. I also looked at the Pebble watch, thinking that you might be able to customize the home screen. I think it would be possible to have the watch display some info like "Type 1 diabetes - insulin dependent", but I don't know that emergency medical personnel would think to look at it. I thought of the Pebble watch because it also has certain aspects where it might be programmed to detect if someone fell and possibly alarm (with accelerometer, magnetometer, etc.). Just throwing this out there to see what people think might be interesting for more of a medical id device (as opposed to just an id bracelet)
I was thinking of a similar idea about alerting someone (maybe programmed to call a dr or family member) if you fall down (are verticle) and your heart rate is funny, sweating, etc, sort of like the medical alert necklace thing on tv where elderly people can get help but they have to push a button to call. There was also a company that made medic alert tags with a phone number on the back and then an emergency personel could call an info line for your medical history (I used to have one of these). There is a privacy issue though, do you want just anyone reading a scrolling watch with health info on it?
I am not too concerned about privacy. I am pretty open about my diabetes. I travel a lot for work, so everyone going through security gets to check out my pump and CGM as I am patted down. I have been considering a tattoo, but started thinking about alternatives. Plus, I am always looking for justification for getting a new tech toy.
The new Medtronic 530G insulin pump flashes a message saying that you're a diabetic on the insulim punp screen to help medics if you pass out due to low bg. I just got mine.
