So almost a week ago I removed my last infusion site. I am back to doing injections to give my body a break from 17 years of pump therapy. Last night (5 days from site removal) I had an odd pain in my leg, every time my pants would touch the spot. This morning when I woke up, there is a red circle around the sore area. There is a small hard mass but I have many of them in my legs and abdomen from years of injecting into the same spots. I guess my question is, do I go to a doctor for antibiotics, or wait for a few days to see if it goes away on its own? I have never had an infected (well this bad) site before. There have been times that I have had infected sites but I would remove the site, and put a warm cloth over the site and it would pull the infection out for me.
If you think it is related to a pump site gone bad, do not wait go immediately. If it is a bad pump site, they can go from bad to awful in the blink of an eye. GO see the doctor is my very best advice.
The location of the pain is right where my last site was.
Rick is correct and knows what he is talking about. Pump site infections can turn nasty quite quickly. Better safe than sorry. And good luck.
what has me the most perplexed is that it has almost been a week since the site was in. And it just started yesterday. I can not get in to my family doc till thursday and my d doc is on vacation.
Make sure it isn't a deer tick (very small until they balloon up with blood).
THe redness is gone, it is no longer warmer than any other part of my leg. But there is still a slight discomfort when i press on the area.... Hopefully it is getting better.
