So I’ve been on the Omnipod for about 40 hours now and the first 30 were great. Last night, however, I noticed that the skin near the cannula seemed really poofy. Almost like a rash or (I think) like there was a pocket of unabsorbed insulin right under the skin. I also noticed that none of my correction shots last night seemed to be affecting my blood sugar at all. I’m not really sure why this was and I know we’re still playing around with my settings but do these under skin insulin bubbles happen to anyone else? If so is there anything that can be done about them? Please let me know. The pocket seems to be gone this morning so that’s good but my sugars have been like 180-190 all night so that’s not so good. I just gave myself some correction insulin which I hope will work better than last night. Thanks for any comments you have!
I have never seen that in my DH’s but it sounds like an occlusion was starting - but then seems to work it self out. Is that even possible?? LOL Hopefuly others will chime in. He has been podding now for almost a month and we have lots of challenges. Even so - he still states he does not want to go back to daily shots . . .
I have not had any of those problems but i know sometimes you could have a bad site for absortion. Try another site and make sure the POD is firmly stuck to your skin. As you give your Dr the numbers you generate in the first month he will make corrections in your basal rate and your I/C rate. That will help your numbers to improve. Took a little over a month to get my numbers to look good. Hope this helps, just don’t give up. FYI , I heard from my insurance today and I only have to pay one $15.00 co-pay for my PDM and Pods, of course I’m THRILLED!
Have a good day,
Matt
