I’m 67. Had diabetes going on 55 years (can’t believe it). I’m on multiple shots with the InPen. At night over the last few months, the somogy (is that the spelling) has been very prominent. Where I’ll got to bed at 125 and then wake up at 194, which even after I take my shot creeps up to the mids 200s. It eventually goes down by my taking my shot and waiting like 1-4 hours to eat depending on the number. Does this mean that my lantus overnight isn’t working? I have been waking up at like 5 in the morning and taking 2 units of Humalog to bring it down by 7 (not every day, some days) This doesn’t happen every day. I’m on an almost no carb diet. I will contact my providers. But anyone have similar experience or ideas?
I am on Humalog MDI and low carb diet as well and have the same problem if I eat protein, especially after noon. As a result, I eat OMAD (One meal a day) at noon and limit my proteins to a minimal amount at lunch. I have not taken lantus in years as it always created night low events.
Consider changing - if you can - your long-term insulin.
I recently started Tresiba, going from two (2) Lantus shots per day to one (1) for Tresiba and deal with the opposite problem my BS going down as I sleep. For me, this means I need to take slightly less Tresiba, but the benefits of its long-lasting effects are good for me.
Separately, do you work out? Exercise is known to increase insulin sensitivity, and I find working out in the evening boosts my metabolism a bit.
Yeah, I do between 2 and 5 miles a day walking.
