Insurance Companies Make Me Crazy

And here’s a new one for me. Is it just me or do Insurance Companies make everyone crazy?

I actually am very blessed because I am a teacher = union = good coverage. BUT I recently hit a glitch that makes no sense. I am on two different kinds of insulin. For one I use insulin syringes and draw up my dose three times a day and the other I use a pen with a needle cap every night for my long acting that keeps me happy over the night. But my insurance system won't refill my syringes without a personal phone call from my human resources department. The system has coded in all syringes and needle caps with the same code so when I go to get one or the other refilled, it says I already have them and won't refill. Basically they don't recognize I need two different types. Yikes. The only way I can get what I need is for them to do a phone call and manual over ride. And I have to do it EVERY TIME I refill EITHER ONE.

Human Resources took two months to figure all this out - at first they couldn't understand why I needed two kinds of needles. Then they had to figure out a way to over ride the system. And then they had to decide that the only way to get my supplies is a phone call every refill for each one. Sorry for the trouble.

On the bright side, they decided to cover both syringes and needle caps for the pen and now have figured out how I can get my supplies.
On the down side, they make me feel like here-comes-trouble every time I call. So much for dignity.

The pharmacist remarked I should just buy them out of pocket.
I said I don't care what they cost -- I'm entitled to those benefits and its the principle of the thing. All those meds and supplies add up. Do I look like I'm rich? (not a teacher salary with two in college honey!)

Oh well, thanks for letting me vent. Does anyone else go through these freaky insurance glitches?

Totally crazy. Of course, you probably could have gotten around it by asking your doctor to prescribe twice the amount needed and just write the prescription as syringes or needles. That would shut them up.

An idea to consider! Be careful – it makes too much sense! lol
