Intro

Hello and thank you for your nice warm welcomes. I was told I had diabetes almost 3 years ago. I was on oral meds until last October. Last summer my A1C was 6.2 and in September I got really sick. I could not get my sugar levels down so I was put in insulin. Since then my A1C has went up to 8.4 and I have gained 30 lbs. I am very stressed about my weight gain and this disease that plagues me!!

I know. I lost a lot of weight before diagnosis due to ketosis, but now I’m packing it on. It’s scary, isn’t it?

Hello Stacie. Welcome to the family.
Being sick can raise your blood sugar…Thus increasing your A1C.
With regards to your weight gain…there maybe several factors to consider and you may ask your doctor regarding this matter: Insulin controls your blood sugar level, therefore there are more glucose that gets into your cells. The glucose that your cells don’t use accumulates as fat. If you continue to eat as you did before, you’ll likely gain weight. It doesnt mean that you will continue to gain weight…there are steps that we can do. Exercise and be physically active, you may not be required to eat as much as you were eating before…start counting carbs and calorie intake. Ask your doctor how much you can take.
Oh by the way…I know it unavoidable sometimes…but stress too can increase blood sugar. Try to relax. With the help of your doctor (or/and dietician) start on a program. Don’t lose hope…you will be back on tract soon. The community will be here to give you the support =)

Welcome to TuD. I have been there before when it seems what you do is not working out. I put on some weight during my ealy diagnosis but I did manage to get it back under control with the help of my endo and dietician. I did not have a group like this and I wished I would of because they have made a big difference on how I manage things today. Here you have a lot of information that can try to guide you to better control. I am a person who is highly impacted by stress and my body does not act very well with it, blod pressure, bg’s and weight go up when I am really stressed. The best medicine for me to deal with stress has been excercise. Try to relax a little bit and that may help

take care

Gosh, you all are great!! I work out regularly and have forever. I also play softball, this is my 26 years, so my physical activity is always on the go. It makes me feel so much better to know that I am not alone. Thank you all for your comments and support. I made an appointment with a dietician for next week. It is hard but I am very thankful for your help and comments
