Introduce Yourself!

Hi,

My name is Janice and I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and hypothyroidism when I was 22. I believe I had both as a kid, but never got diagnosed. Four years ago, I was diagnosed with hypertension, high blood pressure and chronic kidney failure. On July 27, my sister gave me one of her kidneys, but I still live with many side effects of the immunosuppressive drugs in addition to other symptoms I’m concerned with. Since I started taking the immunosuppressives, I’ve become extremely moody, depressed, and extremely agitated. My eyesight has also depleted and I’m worried it’s the diabetes that could be affecting me.

The whole thing has been very scary, exciting, and highly emotional, but I’m improving slowly. I just hope I can better control my diabetes and bring my sugar levels down.

Hello, I’m Megan, 23.

I have:

Type 1 Diabetes

Depression/Bipolar

Anxiety

High Cholesterol

Immune Deficiency of IgG, IgA, and sometimes IgM

Asthma

Allergies metals/environmental/animal

Gerd

Tension Headaches

I have also had tendonitis bursitis in both knees since I was 14

I have had more surgeries (medical related) than all of my friends put together and take more pills than either of my 50 some year old parents. I don’t feel 23, I feel 45 and I’m lucky the few friends I do have understand I’m not a young person’s person.

Have you seen an ENT for your nose bleeds? I’m sure you have if you’ve had them cauterized, but I had the same problem and chronic headaches and I wound up having huge polyps in my sinuses. I had to have surgery to have them removed.

Hi Magz…yes, I went to an ENT. Found cauterization to be extremely painful. Surgery was not mentioned, as the bleeds are not extreme. Did YOUR nose bleeds stop after the surgery?? Will the polyps return? Were they the cause of your headaches?

Yes, I haven’t had any of the bleeds like before. When I get dry I occasionally get a small one. As for the polyps, there is a chance they will come back. The ones they took out were almost golf-ball size though and there were many. My headaches got a lot better since they were mostly due to the pressure. I wouldn’t recommend having any kind of sinus surgery unless it’s absolutely necessary. It hurt like heck and was very risky, seeing as how they chisel bone about an inch from the brain. I still get sinus headaches, but nothing like before.

i have non verbal learning disability, migraines, panic attacks, type 1.5/lada diabetes, patella femoral syndrome, possible adhd, apraxia, hypotension, and allergies. Non verbal learning disability stinks because i can’t drive, do math, understand body language at all, way too literal, and can’t picture things either.

Like being Bi-Polar (diagnosed before it became popular) wasn't enough~
I needed to add diabetic to the list, with all of it's medical complications.
Feeling much better since I was diagnosed however and could treat what ailed me!
Hugs to you all,
Debra

Hi All- I have decided to start 2012 by joining this group. I have many conditions besides Type 1 ( which, BTW, I got at age 55.) Most notably is Parkinson's Disease. That causes me many more problems than the D. Also, I have hypothyroid disease, osteoporosis, the beginning of cataracts, & Vitamin D deficiency.
The PD has hindered my mobility greatly especially in 2011. I have trouble walking and I freeze when I stop in a doorway. I can no longer walk properly. I use a cane when I go anywhere. Sometimes I feel like I am going to fall over. It has definitely affected my life in a negative way. Handling my D is a breeze compared to having PD.
If any one else in this group has PD maybe we can talk and compare treatment and life issues.

My name is Yvonne and I am a type 2 diabetes on insulin (NovaLog Mix 70/30), have high blood pressure (Bystolic) and high cholesterol (Lipitor) and now have a blood clot (Warfarin). It's a long story, but I was having a bad reaction to niacin (I switched from Lipitor to save $$$), then Simvastatin (serious rash with skin peeling) and had to go off it so skin wouldn't come off with the tape while having cataract surgery. It didn't go away when I went back on Lipitor, so quit taking it. I'm back on it and the rash hasn't reappeared, but I was anxious about what my cholesterol numbers were, so was tested by my primary (prescribed Lipitor by my endo) and just found out how really bad they are. A nurse just called me and said ? wanted me to take Fish Oil. I said NO. It can react with Warfarin and it can cause a hip fracture. No thanks. Finish later.

My former neighbor (has since died) took Vioxx and nearly died from that. She had to move in with one of her children for a long time. Very bad. She finally overcame it, went back to living by herself, but over a year ago, died. I still miss her. But I'm glad no one can take Vioxx anymore. I feel this is what did her in.

Hey, I'm Jonah.

I'm a type 1 diabetic, and I'm autistic. In the last few years I've had a number of major medical issues. The biggest was probably gallstone pancreatitis (post- chole!).

I am 23 years old, I got my bachelor's in secondary education two years ago and I hold a few part time jobs.

HI everyone! I am new here and was reading over the posts first before I listed my companions. I have to say though my hubby and I thought that we had a rough time but it doesn't seem to compare to what you all have been though. My thoughts and prayers go to all of you.

Anyways.. companions
Endometrial Cancer and surgery to remove it Praise God nothing left!
T1 since 2004 as a result of surgery
Gastroparsis ?
Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction Type 2
Asthma
On Medicine for High Cholesterol and Blood Pressure as precautions

Very sensitive to anything being applied to my skin to was unable to continue with a CGM even though I loved it. My sugars have a tendency to be normal one minute and 5 minute later decide to say forget you and go off the charts.

Oh where, Oh where do I start?

Since this is a diabetes site, guess that a logical place.

I had a diabetes scare when I was 14. I was told in the hospital I would end up on shots, well I TOLD THEM, what they could do with their needles. I got better Wooppie!

I got in the Navy, Was admitted to sick bay, had another D scare at age 22. One morning they said if I could pass a urine sugar test, I could return to active duty, and "forget it ever happened", and I was very happy to forget it happened,at the time.

Then I hit my 30s....Got a sore throat, went thru HELL for a couple weeks. MY fam doc refused to see me for follow up on the sore throat. MY boss at work asked me to see a co doc, I needed to see someone. I saw the co doc in the morning, given a clean bill of health and taken to ER via ambulance that same evening and admitted for diabetes.
My diabetes TYPE is weird, sort of a cross between type-1b and 1.5. Today my diabetes is better than ever, far better than 25 or 30 years ago. After decades of NPH & R insulins, I was switched to MDI on Lantus and Humalog.

I have had MS (Multiple Sclerosis) symptoms since about age 12, l'hermittes since I was 13/14 and developed MS related diplopia at age 18. I refused to ship-over (stay/re-enlist) in the navy due to lack of proper medical care. Never got proper PRISM glasses for my diplopia while in. I had to go outside the navy to get proper glasses.

My MS was ignored by the VA for decades as well. I knew there was something amiss, just did not know the name for it. Even civilian docs ignored classic Dawson's fingers on my brain MRI, even tho they lit the MRI up like a Christmas tree. A new eye doc in 2009 at long last opened the MS Can-o-worms and thus began the push, backed by my fam doc for a complete formal MS work up and MS diagnosis. By the time I actually got my long delayed MS Dx I was already only a couple months from being Rx'd a power-chair. My MS is at long last being treated, very expensive, thousands of dollars per month worth of daily inject-able drug for my MS, makes expensive Lantus & Hemalog look cheap.

I have Chronic Kidney Disease, stage-3. Dipped close to stage-4 a couple years ago, but its improved a little with good BG control and meds. I did have a kidney scare back on Jan 12th. I had routine quarterly labs and that afternoon ordered to ER. I did not have to stay over-nite and returned home later that evening. Exactly A week later I fell in the driveway (I still can walk some, but limited) and broke 5 ribs. Two days later my kidneys went into acute failure. So yet another ambulance (meat wagon) ride to ER and admitted. After a few days of IV treatment my kidneys recovered. (till next time).

I have minor heart valve damage to my Mitral, Tricuspid and aortic valves, from rheumatic fever long ago. I have had issues with Afibs, but I am on Coreg and that is keeping things stable, preserving the valves as long as possable.

I am also hypo thyroid and have psoriasis, one might say I hot the Auto-immune lottery.

All in all, I am doing reasonably well, considering. MY diabetes is in good control, and much easier these days. I am slowly recovering from the broken ribs.

Well. I thought I really had it bad until I read what some of you are going thru. Here's my list:

Type II Diabetes (somewhat controlled w/Lantus, diet & exercise)
COPD w/asthma, mild emphysema & chronic Bronchitis(somewhat controlled w/rx)
Obstructive Sleep Apnea
Erosions in the lining of my stomach (almost ulcers)
osteoarthritis in knees & other joints
Depression (that should be a given)
High blood pressure (controlled w/rx)
High cholesterol (controlled w/rx)
Restless Legs Syndrome (mostly controlled w/rx)
Moderate spinal stenosis (lower spine, can't remember which ones)
year-round allergies (indoor & out)
super-morbid obesity

oh, yeah, almost forgot the rosacea that is acting up and giving me some kind of nastiness on my facial skin

Now, almost all of these conditions will be improved w/weight loss, which is an on-going. life long struggle. I had lost 30 pounds last year, but then in Sep I moved, got terribly sick & went on steroids for (seriously!) 2 months. Hello again, 30 pounds. After that I gave in & ate what I wanted When I wanted. After seeing on orthopedist last week where I once again heard the benefits of gastric bypass surgery extolled, I got serious again & am watching my carbs. I forgot to mention my right knee is bone on bone w/lots of spurs. I have some cartilage left in my left knee. Due to my breathing problems and the pain in my knees & back, I can do very little exercise. Due to my stomach erosions, I'm unable to take any anti-inflammatory oral meds. I do take narcotic pain pills & muscle relaxers 3x/day, along w/11 other rx meds. I sleep w/a CPAP and I'm on oxygen. I'm 60 yrs old and can't believe I allowed myself to get this bad. However, here I am. A week or so ago, I had a terrible time emotionally, dealing w/the resp problems. I live in central Illinois & the temp has been running in the mid ti hi 90's. Even w/central air, I still have a very hard time breathing. I'm doing better mentally, tho, so that's a big help.

I guess I qualify for this group, but I feel guilty about being here because I can help myself get better, whereas it seems that for most of you, that isn't an option. But I sure will feel better if I can find someone who can relate to all of this....

I have Diabetes course and Celiac

Hello I am Aaron,
I am new to this site and recently dx'ed with Type 2 just last week. I am not new to autoimmune diseases though. I was diagnosed with Still's Disease at the age of 8, A form of Rheumatoid Arthritis, I have had 7 replaced joints. I also have sjogrens, Complex sleep Apnea, Mild pulmonary Hypertension, Boney thorasic restriction, High blood pressure, Anxiety. Life has had its ups and downs. Life would of been so boring without all of this in my life, I always tell people. I am 39 now by the way I guess I should of added that at the start of this post. I look forward to meeting you all hear and learning about my newest condition. I am not a total stranger to diabetes as my grandpa had it, and my mom also has type 2.

Hi everyone! I am happy to find this group :)...I'm like WAHOO a place I can write about the multiple issues and know that hey oo someone has the same thing!

Ok lets get right onto it. I am almost 36 years old (yeah I'm gonna say I'm 30 for the second time)...Currently I am out of work due to well multiple conditions! I am not sure if I'll be able to go back to work I've been out for 8 months thus far on unpaid medical leave and i'm happy there are assistance available :)..

So what on earth do you have so oh we can get to know ya. Well, I am hearing impaired and I wear glasses due to a cataract removal as a baby and the other was my color of my eyes was in the back of my head so that had to be corrected. Also I had german measles that caused Rubella and I had spinal meningitis. So its blurry but oh when I babysat I use to scare the kids as I can see what they were doing when I looked straight ahead. Ok yeah I play the deaf card when I really dont wanna hear someone talk and talk so a way to ignore them is deaf card awww yeah. I had a heart murmur and thankfully it cleared up when I was a young kid. So yay for no heart issues now. So years go by and hoped nothing else. Oh wait when I was 16 I was diagnosed with Chrondulmalacia (I cant spell it). Depression/anxiety/panic attacks/OCE/PTSD whew that was a mouthful. And when I turned the lovely age of 29 and was terminated at a job a week before, i had my first hearing the word you are a diabetic..um what? noooooo. I started out as LADA (I actually started the first group for LADA peeps) then retyped at type 1. Ok so I prayed nothing else would enter into my oh so chaotic life. Wait but theres more! I had a right side weakness (they ruled out stroke and I use to work with pts like that so I know the signs all right) (and it was too late to call out. I'm a CNA as a profession) in January and my first seizure. And they thought I could have MS. Well the dr still hasn't gave me a clean bill of health with that so an MRI (enough with them eh) for February so follow up with everything, etc. Oh joy more medications! So PT/OT was ordered and oh flare ups in June (ugh not again), then when things couldn't get worse, My PCP had an MRI done with showed Osteoarthritis also Degenerative disc disease. Oh also I had my first DKA (ok its not a medical conditions per se but hey it happened). I saw a dr who specialist who deals with rhumatology, etc. He looked at the MRI and said yup Cervical DDD. Ohhhh as enough diagnoses was enough he added Fibromyalgia.

So I am a complex patient as some of the drs say. SO here I am!

Hi! I’m 27, married and a full - time student with three jobs and an internship! Woo now onto my conditions:
Type 1 diabetes since June 2003. (I fell into a 3 day coma, after which I was diagnosed. My sugars were in the high 900 and I almost died)
Neuropathy in both legs
Diminished vision
IBS
GAD generalized anxiety disorder
Depression
High cholesterol
Increased triglycerides
Slightly overweight (165 and 5’3")
Minor tremor in right hand which is supposed to get worse with age.
Pseudoephygia (phobia of choking, but only with pills so everything is liquid, chewable or it dissolves.)

I think that’s it…
I’ve tried every depression medication I can think of and settled on Celexa. So far it’s been doing okay, but we’ll see.
