We got my son's shipment of the NEW OmniPods today! He actually seems excited which made me VERY excited. I am hoping that this makes his life a little easier than MDI and having to remember his split dose of Lantus every morning & evening. Wish us luck! We won't be stating until Spring Break (the end of March) but we will be reading/learning as much as we can before start-up day!
2038-OmniPod.JPG (3.41 MB)New as in new black PDM with new 2nd generation smaller pods!? Meaning that the new ones are shipping in the U.S. perhaps!?
Either way, I'm excited that you two are both so excited :) The pump is only as useful as you make it, but I think it's a great option over MDI. Congrats and good luck as you get started in a few weeks!
Yes, the new 2nd generation. I attached a picture (I hope) to my original post if you want to check it out. They started shipping in the U.S. on Monday and we just got my son's today. Thanks & we can't wait to get started. :)
Very cool! I had heard that there was a delay (never heard a reason for delay though)and the expected "End of February, beginning of March" ship date was pushed to April. Nice to know at least some of them are starting to trickle out already! Great news!
So exciting! I emailed my rep on Monday and she got back to me the same day with this response: "You’re due for supplies in early April. We should be shipping by then. I can let you know if that’s not the case. We started shipping to new patients today and converting existing users is the next phase. You should get an email with a link connecting you to the online training. Once you do that you can get the new pod with your next order. If it looks like it’s getting close to your order time and we’re not shipping yet, you might want to put a hold on your order and use the stockpile up and then you can call when you’re ready."
Glad to know that they are shipping and that they will be in all our hands soon!
Hmmm, interesting, since our rep told us that they would be shipping to EXISTING customers FIRST (back in August when we first started). He specifically told us that's why we should go ahead and get started instead of waiting for the smaller ones to be approved.
I know that you are not the only newer old pod user to be told that. I'm sorry that there was miscommunication. However, I think it makes sense that new users would get the new pods first so that they don't have to be trained on the old one just to be trained on the new one a few weeks later.
When I started on the pod 2 years ago there was already talk of the smaller pods. The local sales rep told me that if the OP system was the right one for me, then get on it now. Changes and the next bigger and better item will ALWAYS be around the corner. I'm so glad that I did not delay waiting for the smaller pods. The last two years have been the best control I've had and the most freedom while living with D for the last 17 years :) Not one regret for starting on the omnipod when I did!
Insulet just told me that they are only shipping new pods to new customers now, and that existing customers can't order until end of March or beginning of April at the earliest.
I hope to stretch my pods to then--and may have to go back to MDI until they are ready to sell them to existing customers...
WOW! We've been patiently awaiting word that our new pods are coming. My son's been a pod wearer for 2 years now and a smaller pod will be much easier for his little body. I'm curious what area your from and what distributor you use. We are in Florida and use Edgepark. I have a fear that distributors will get them last.
Our rep. told us the same thing when we met with him several weeks ago. I didn't believe him (I really don't think he knew) because we just went through the same thing with the new Dexcom CGM's. My husband wanted to go ahead and order the old OmniPod but I wanted to wait since we weren't going to start until Spring Break anyway. Very glad that I did. :)
Yes, we waited because my son actually knocked the sample pod off by day 3. We were told that the new ones (2nd generation) would be smaller and sit lower against his body. And, it does look like they will sit tighter against the body. :)
We are in South Florida and I believe our distributor is CareCentrix (that's our 3rd party billing company for his Dexcom CGM anyway).
i was told the same thing, and here is sit with two and a half boxes of old pods when i could be getting my new smaller ones. i had plenty of my paradigm supplies to go 6 more months if i needed to, and now that's all wasted.
I went to the JDRF Walk in West Palm today and the Omnipod reps were there. They had samples of the new pods, so I got to see and feel one. Can't wait! It will indeed be so much better for little ones like my daughter. Our specific rep wasn't at this walk but I told the one who was there that I was a little peeved at being told existing customers would get them first when in actuality new ones are. She said that's what they were told at the time. Oh well, we'll get ours next month. If I don't get an email from Insulet in the next couple of weeks, I'll give 'em a call and make sure our next shipment is the new ones.
We got the omnipod a year ago, and were also told existing users would get the smaller pod first. I am excited for the OP, but really miffed with omnipod for lying to us! we were going to either wait, or go with another pump, but were told since the new smaller pod was right around the corner and we would be first in line we should go with them. Luckily i switched to one month supplies of boxes so we wont be stuck waiting 3 MORE months for the new pod.
Great! You can find a lot of information on this site and YouTube on how to change pods. Tip, write down all of the PDM (personal diabetes manager) settings when you go for training and keep. Also, I placed my name and cell phone number on the back of my PDM with a labeler in case I leave someplace.
Is Chris your rep.? He told us that the existing customers would get them first also. But, I just went through the same thing with my son's Dexcom CGM so I decided to wait & see what would happen (since new customers got the new CGM's before existing customers). I really don't think they (reps.) knew, but they shouldn't have said either way.
No it's Jim. The guy who was supposed to be our rep (out of Orlando) is no longer with the company, and I know why - he never returned my calls or emails. Jim technically covers Delray to the Keys, but we're only a few miles north of Delray so I coerced him into being our rep when the other guy was non-responsive. :-)
Are you in Boynton Beach? I'm sorry, his name IS Jim. He's our rep. too. He covers Boca Raton. (Chris is one of our DexCom contacts).
This is so exciting! I can't wait to get them, but I'm a little bummed bc I just got a shipment a few days ago and I already had a pretty good sized stockpile. Oops. I guess that gives me about 2 1/2 months to wait. But it does look substantially smaller in the pic, so yay for that!
We're in Lantana. I guess I'll be speaking to Chris with DexCom one of these days. Not sure when the best time will be to get Liz on it. She's only 4, so I'm not sure how she'll feel about another needle stick and wearing another device on her little body.
