It's nice

yes, it’s nice to hear from you all. I was an “alone” diabetic for more than 36 years. May be it’s hard to believe me, but I never met another diabetic of type 1 when I was in school, later in “lycée” ( maybe high school) and in my adult life. In 2003 I’ve got another complication and I need an open-heart surgery and after 7 days at the “clinique” (private hospital) I went to re-education, to learn how to move without using my arms, because the operation was very hard my shoulders were twisted, to walk and to live. And I discovered one diabetic, a man of 35 years old, very angry, sad about diabetes. He got the same operation. I try to speak with him but the only answer was: “I’ve diabetes (type1 like me) since 15 years and you are better than me”. After two months I was getting better and well to go to a concert of David Bowie. It was so nice to live, although I’ve got pain in my shoulders and to see all the people. After I met diabetic association of my town: only old type 2… Where were diabetics of type 1? So I go to internet and many months later I found this website. I’m not alone! And I like to write!
It’s an introduction and I think I’m going to write more and more. I’m French, using English words so sorry for my mistakes.
Next time I’ll try to tell how I climbed a so nice mountain called Glandasse (2050 meters) and add some photos! but it would be another day!

What a nice post. I am glad things are getting better for you. I am also glad you found this place to be around others with diabetes. Welcome!

I am so glad that you found this site! You are certainly not alone, though it often feels that way! Maybe more people from France will join!

that’s right you are not alone. maybe you be the one to start a diabetes awareness group in your surrounding area. i hope cause you have alot of years behind you on the diabetes. thanks for sharing and do write some more. much respect to you, patti

Brigette, was the open-heart surgery related to your diabetes? Or something completely separate? You have been through a lot! Wowww! Your english is “tres bon”! You write like you are fluent. Here is my email at work: mbigelow@prophet.com Write me here if you like. I don’t have a computer at home at the moment. I have a blackberry though so can pick up emails that come in to my work email address anytime. Ciao, Megan
