I will get a flu shot again this year. I do it not only to protect myself against the flu but to protect society. All of us with diabetes have in some way a compromised health system. If we get the flu it can be worse and we our health can be at risk. Yes, the flu shot is effective against only certain strains and it may not end up protecting you against getting the flu. But if there is a terrible flu epidemic like in 1918 it may save your life and may protect against you spreading that flu on to others. [I wrote about this three years ago][1]. It is not that I am afraid of getting the flu, I fear a really bad flu epidemic and the fact that it usually costs me nothing means that I can do my part to not at least partly protect myself and society.
