My Girl Made me a Just in case diabetic bag. If something was to happen .In the bag is .
5 insets
2 Bottles Insulin & Insulin Pens ( Frige in bedroom)
Wipes
Water
glucose tabs
protien bars
Anybody else have a bag ready to go if something was to happen ?
Clear Cake Icing - Used for a low when you are having trouble swallowing. Can be squeezed down the side of your cheek.
Glucogen Kit or Glucogon Kit - In case you go low and pass out.
Extra meter with strips - I would have a full unopened box of strips in the bag. I would change out the strips every 6 months.
Extra pen needles.
Sharps container and a pair of pliers. I use an empty 8 oz water bottle. I pull the needle out of the infusion sets and put them in the bottle.
I have an emergency bag that has infusion sets and related pump supplies (batteries, alcohol swabs, cartridges, etc.), pen needles and an empty pen (insulin itself is in the fridge, Humalog along with backup Lantus), a spare meter and one vial of strips, urine ketone strips, granola bars, glucose gel, water and an empty refillable water bottle, thermal blanket, general first aid kit, flashlight, etc. I’d keep a glucagon kit in there if I had one. There are probably a few things its missing It all fits in a bright red OneTouch bag that I got for free from the pharmacy a few years back.
I also carry in my purse a filled insulin pen and needles, spare batteries for meter and pump, an extra cartridge and infusion set for the pump, blood ketone meter and a few strips, glucose gel, a granola bar, some money, and so on. It’s enough diabetes supplies to live off of for a few days if I had access to food and water. I live in an earthquake zone in a city with a lot of bridges and since I rely on public transit I’m paranoid of becoming stranded for days even if there were only a moderately big earthquake.
Yes. I take it with me anytime I leave the house. Infusion sets, batteries, glucose tabs, syringes, ketones meter, spare meter and extra bottle of strips, extra lancets, alcohol swabs and IV preps. I think that’s about it. We call it my “oh sh*t bag.”
IV 3000 if you use them
Frio or Ice Pack to keep insulin cool. I live in the south.
Wow, I need to do this. Take meter, jelly beans, insulin & syringes wherever I go, but definitely need to be prepared with an emergency stash.
I have my bag with about 2 weeks of supplies I take with me everywhere and I have my bug out bag with about close to six months of supplies minus syringes but I do have stuff for cleaning and reusing them, just need to work on the food side of it.
oh yeah, got the little one in my purse, got enough to get me through about three days of emergency. then there’s the extra supplies at my desk at work and in my car. and hanging on the back of a closet door in my house is my hospital bag. my sister has a house key and knows if i call her from the hospital, stop by the house and grab my bag please.
the hospital bag has spares of all my pump and CGMS supplies as well as preferred toiletry products, underwear, socks [i never wear socks but my feet are ALWAYS cold in the hospital] and a t shirt for when i get to leave.
and, actually, after my last visit i added a little mini bottle of laundry detergent and a folding plastic hangar since i tend to sweat in hospitals too and had desperately wanted to rinse out some things in the sink.
I have two of these bags one for the car and one for work in each I keep the following:
2 set changes
2 resiviors
50 extra strips
1 spare meter one touch ultra mini’s they are so small
pack of 4 triple a’s
Glucogon kit
bottle of glucose tabs
1 humalog pen
1 lantus pen
20 pen needles
1 vial of humalog
1 sensor
extra lancets that I am sure will never be used! lol
5 tagaderms
10 iv preps
god knows how many alcohol swabs
various snacks
pack of six water bottles for the car
Do you keep your car kit in the car all of the time with the heat, etc? Does it tolerate the heat as well?
Thats a good idea MED I will set one up for the car Just in case of ( House fire , Hospital etc) you never no today whats going to happen .So I always let family no where the bags are so they no.
I always have stuff on me anytime I am outside my front door, and I routinely carry my hypo emergency kit even in my house, I simply slip it into one of my pockets.
My supplies are not quite in just one bag but stored in multiple pockets
My test kit also containing my insulin and needles
Always a bottle of juice or a good amount of candy in my pockets, hypo kit is always there
Bottle of water, encase I end up high
In the trunk of my car does have a box with:
spare test kit and a couple of test strip bottles, bag of needles, another bottle of juice and lots of candy.
Inside the car with me: Hypo kit in the glove box, more candy sitting in the driver side door panel pockets, test kit gets parked in the center console (fits perfectly between the cup holders and E-Brake)
On my hikes I always carry tons of water and tons of candy/juice, I always carry at least 2 or 3 times more sugar than I would ever need, but better safe than sorry.
I keep it in an insulated lunch bag so it maintians temp well. if I put it in there it does not seem to heat up or get to cold either works well for me just remember to rotate everything monthly so you don’t lose supplies to expiration dates. and the insulin just stays on me at all times in its lil frio pack and no harm to it either.
I got in a wreck one time and cops didn’t find me for hrs lucky me I had the bag so now I know how important this stuff is. I mean think what would happen if you got lost or whatever disaster you can come up with at least you are ready! I think that is the medic in me I don’t know. lol
