i am going to be running in the call of the wild mud run/obstacle series in portugal. it is 12 km and over 25 obstacles. Some of the obstacles involve jumping into a lake/body of water, being completely submerged. I would like to have a meter with me to test-12 km and obstacles are a mixed bag bg-wise. Has anyone found a good type bag thing that is completely waterproof? i would carry my meter and a couple of strips. and sugar, in gel form, so that would be in plastic.
How long is the run? My cousin asked a bunch of his buddies, other cousin and me to do a Tough Mudder a few years ago, I said “sure”, looked into it and decided I’d be doing MDI as it looked like a huge hassle with the possiblility of a big mess and that I’d just wing it. Fortunately, everyone else chickened out so it was a no go. Depending on the time, I’d just make sure my BG was ok at the start and go for it. A lot of the climby things would probably give you BG boost but if I didn’t have any IOB, I would probably be ok. Lately, I’ve been pregaming with yogurt, 10-15G of carbs, for long bike rides (like 3 hours…) and it’s worked out nicely. Maybe some type of boost like that would get you through the race?
i think i may just do what acid said n run without it…eee…ive git time ti try to find something like this tho. tnx
You should maybe try both too. A bunch of my Beachbody-oriented buddies do those all the time and I srt of get the impression that anything you bring along will be trashed but the bag looks like a pretty solid piece of equipment too. Running, I always prefer to have all my gear on me but I hardly ever run in inclement weather.
That being said, I rode the Tour de Cure a week ago in Chicago and the ride started in a monsoon, complete torrential downpour. I was concerned about my water resistant but not waterproof pump but I had it wrapped up in double plastic baggies, mostly ziplocked and some duct tape to reinforce it. It worked ok but was sort of a hassle as it was hard to see the CGM so I’d take it out and change bags at the stops (fortunately, they had lots of spares on hand…). I punked out of the 100 because at 40 miles, where there’s a turn for the metric century, there were more clouds on the horizon the way we were headed and I didn’t want to deal with a dead, wet pump. And I didn’t want to deal with cramps in my legs either.
okay. But I have used the waterproof pack to carry my stuff on rafting rides and water park fun and such. The pump goes in an aquapac but I didn’t see anywhere that you ask after pump stuff. I simply can’t leave my meter and some glucose behind for any period of time. Have fun with or without your necessities
yeah, i know. i would so much rather have my meter with me, especially because of the running-lowering bg, obstacles-potential higher bg, anticipation-maybe higher bg, heat-lower bg. why is this so annoying.
the bag you used, did you completely submerge it?

The bag I use, and Yes it is completely submerged, and no water came in. Not only that, it is inexpensive. It does say on the packaging not to submerge in water, but I have not had any trouble. It is very inexpensive. There are some pretty fancy ones that might fit your need. As I said, I use an aquapac for my pump and it can go swimming with me.
this aquapump thing, would it be suitable for a meter and things or is it specially sized for a snug pump fit? i will check and see if i can find it on the internet…
thanks for your help here with this. the last mud run i did my mom volunteered at a midway water station so i could check, but that one was only 5km.
