I use a Ping and a Dexcom G4. Obviously, I need the pump during the race, but I'd also like to carry my Dex too. Has anyone else here done this race, or any similar "mud race?"
My Ping is waterproof, so I'm not terribly worried about it. I plan on sticking it in my sports bra and then putting a piece of tegaderm over the site to protect it from the muddy water that I am likely to end up in.
Best idea I have right now for the Dex is to stick it in a plastic sandwich bag and put it in a zippered pocket on my shorts.
I am betting that someone here has got a better idea than this? or some tips?? I haven't done a race in a couple of years (my first even with a CGM)-- plan on carrying a Gu or 2 in case I need some carbs.
Plastic sandwich bag would certainly work. For more durability, you could get a cell-phone sized drybag. Just search for "cell phone waterproof" on Amazon and you'll see a ton of options for ~$15.
I did a mud race last year and just went without it. I'm so glad I did. Aside from getting mud in every pore of my body you also can get jostled around so I'm glad I didn't wear it- it might have hurt if I fell on it (there was LOTS of slipping and sliding and belly crawling through mud! I did wear my infusion site with a cap on it but I made sure to use Tegaderm and seal it up. Good luck and have fun! I had a blast doing it and I'm so glad I did something so out of my comfort zone. You are going to be awesome.
I finished Tough Mudder and just went without. I had people along the way just in case I hit a low or needed anything. The only difference is Tough Mudder was 10.4 miles, where the warrior dash is typically only a 5k or 3.1 miles. Even with the obstacles, it should be completed in an hour.
I ended up finishing it a few weeks ago. I decided to go without as well. I am definitely glad I did. I took a small dose of Lantus the night before and turned the basal rates down on my pump before the race, so at least I'd have something. I kept a GU in my sports bra in case I needed it. Luckily, I didn't since it fell out as soon as I fell in the water. It was so gross, but a lot of fun. I reconnected afterwards with a new site.
Here's me and my daughter after I got (a little) cleaned up:
