Kidney shutdown - Dialysis - Transplant - Renal/Diabetes Nutrition (Meal Plan) Questions Need suggestions

Hi Everyone~

Just spent the kast 5 days in the hospital, Told my kidneys are now functioning at 8%. Give the options of Dialysis a Transplant (after dialysis while on waiting list) or just wait it out to see if the kidneys improve.. They told me my diabetes was not the cause of my kidney problems as no protein has ever found in my urine they said some type of tramma to my kidneys have caused my problem.. About 3 years ago I went for pre-surgical testing before my knee replacement and my primary doctor would not approve surgery till I saw a kidney doctor due to the kidney function. Month later had surgery no problems. But have been following up with the kidney doc ever since. Back them I kidney function was at 20%, last Fri. dropped to 10% and when I left the hospital I was at 8%. Go tomorrow and Monday for labs, see kidney doctor Wens.. I'm so confused as what to do. So anything I can hear about can help me would be very much welcome. Do this or that and if I do where do you go, what are the odds of it all. Forgot to say have had diabetes for over 35 year and I'm very well controlled but I'm 70 years old (but feel like 50). 2 daughter, one son in law and a way younger person what to be tested to see if they would be a match. But how could I let them do this But 3 of them have two childen each under 6 years old. Both of my daughters are adopted but the unmarried one has her own health problems of her own, diabetes so I do not believe even if she was a match she would be able to donated. May someone out there can give me suggestions. Thanks !

Dar

I’m so sorry to read about your kidney disease. My husband has early signs of it, and my SIL has advanced kidney disease.

If you need dialysis, please don’t put it off.

If you were ever on Metformin, and had x-rays with dye, that could have done some real damage.

I also know from recent reading that both asperin and tylonal can cause kidney damage and of the two, tylonal is worse.

If you had a knee replacement, its possible that painkillers you used for years contributed or were the cause of your kidney damage. If you are still using either one, cutting back or cutting it altogether might help.

There are warnings with drugs, including Metformin, but I don’t think that most people or even most doctors paid enough attention to them. The results can be tragic.
