Knocking the Pod and it shutting down?

Has anybody had problems with the Pod going “offline” and screeching like mad when knocked ? To clarify this I mean just tapped against a wall in the corridor passing someone at work !! I have had four now out of a supply of 4 boxes, so 40 pumps. On top of that I have to open the Pod up and remove the battery to stop the noise. The PDA cant connect and I need to use the “Discard” option rather than “change Pod” option. It may all fall into the category of them not travelling well. Not sure just wondered if this is something others have come across ? Jgos

I went through about a week 3 months ago where one right after another failed like that just by tapping it against a wall or door or in the shower hitting it lightly. I went through about 6 or 7 pods. I called Omnipod after the second or third one and for each subsequent ones. They finally replaced the entire shipment they had just sent me. I didn't have any confidence in the ones I had. Luckily I had one "old" pod left and used that one until the new shipment arrived. The rep told me they had some issues with some parts from overseas suppliers. I haven't had a problem since.

I have had this happen about 3 times in as many years....not much, but still a mystery, as other times it seems to take a lickin and keep on .....

Haven't had that happen by merely hitting against something, just occlusions and other things. Another way to shut off the "shrieking" instead taking the batteries out is to tap it with a hammer just hard enough to make it stop. Tech recommended a paper clip put through a specific place or placing it in the freezer. The paperclup rarely works to shut it up for long and when you take it out of the freezer it shrieks when it warms up. The hammer is a new discovery for me. (I've been on the 'Pod since 2008.)

Happened to me once about 4 months back. Was trying to wear my seat belt when the latch touched (just barely touched) the pod...the next thing I heard was that long noise. At that time I taught it might have failed due to some static. Still a puzzle.

Yes, I've hit a door jam a couple of times and had it "fail" at that point. And yes, I had to rip it off of me and tear into it to get it to stop b/c the brain would never reconnect w/ the PDM.
And yes, like Elaine I've only had a couple do this, but I've had handfuls that I've hit before and had nothing happen...so it's like there are a few that are just prissy or something ;)

I haven't tried the paper clip trick (opened, and jabbed into the tiny hole on the back). I wonder if that would work. I have just put them in the freezer until trash day. I don't know if they start screeching again when they thaw!

Just twice. I barely tapped it both times. Annoying! Worse was the time I ripped one off enough for the canula to come out, but the pod stayed on, but didn't know it for about a half an hour. I call Insulet on all the failures that aren't my fault. Yes, it is a pain. Yes, I do miss the insulin that I can't get back out of the pod. But - I never have any problem with customer service and they always replace the bad ones. It sure beats the old days when mid morning would come around and I would start to think - Wait, did I take my lantus this AM?..... or not....??? Human error vs. technology error. It's a choice = )
