:)
I should have said: Happy Birthday, TuD! I've been here for about 3 years and may there be many, many more.
We are so close, we are within $500.00 of making it to $10,000. Lets push. We have a few more dollars and we can push it to $10,000 this evening.
When you get sick and tired of feeling sick and tired you will take care of yourself. That was what my doctor said to me as I left his office at age 28. I did not visit another doctor for nearly 20 years. My mom had died of the disease, my aunt had died as a child and I had other priorities. A job, children, wife, I did not have time for diabetes. I hated that I had it, and as I said, I had things to do.
When I was 42, I had given up. I was exhausted, ill, and I was ready for it to end. Unfortunately there seemed no end. I did not go to a regular doctor, instead I went to a therapist. I told her I was depressed, and I wanted to give up. I told her I preferred death over living this way.
After years of avoiding doctors the therapist told me a simple truth. She said when people lose sight of both themselves and the possibility of helping others, they lose part of their fight to survive. It struck a cord and a few months later I saw a doctor. The doctor said I needed to get my self together or face a sure fire bad end.
Over the years I pulled myself together and started back on something approaching normalcy. Along the way I had open heart surgery, was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis and found my way to an endocrinologist. The endo asked what I did for my diabetes, i told him and he said no not how do you treat it, what do you do for it? I had to think a long time and that night I decided to do something, not just for me but for my disease.
That is when I found TuDiabetes. I found a place that I could, for the first time, give back. Yes I had participated in trails, my mom thought it was a diabetic's responsibility, but she also said we had to give back to our fellow diabetics. Mom baby sat diabetic children when no one else would. She donated supplies when others could not. That is what TuDiabetes gave me it gave me a chance to give back to a broader community in a personal way.
That is why I donate and why I have from the first year I came here. TUDiabetes gives me a chance to give back not just for me but for my community. My community has become TUDiabetes and over the years I have been privileged to be here, contribute and share.
When the mom of a young newly diagnosed diabetic comes into the site and needs help, we give back. When a college student needs help, we give back. And when we need help, well when we need help others give back. Thank goodness for this community.

We are very close to going over $10,000 if you can a please give.
This morning we've topped $10,000 in donations. Thank you to everyone who made a contribution.
Just because the campaign is over doesn't mean you can't still make a donation to the Diabetes Hands Foundation. (We still have a funding gap, after all.) If a gift didn't fit into last month's budget, maybe it will fit in this month's.
We are still receiving donations and adding them to the tally.
If you can, please make a donation today and help us close our funding gap. Thanks.
