I had the same pdm for a year and all was fine. Then the meter on it died so they replaced it. Then a week later that pdm just up and died, so they replaced that one (didn't like going back to needles for two days but whatever...) Now the newest replacement is turning off when ever it is moved so tomorrow another arrives. Was I lucky with my first one or am I just very unlucky with the last three? I'm losing faith in the technology. What do you all think?
Lets face it, at times it can be a pain in the bum but it beats the heck out of the alternative.
Christine, there was lots of conversation a while back about batteries not fitting properly in the the newer PDM's causing them to turn off and on. I think it was resolved by using a certain brand. You could research the past discussions. Good luck.
Christine you werent using lithium batteries were you? I had forgot but when I first started using the Omnipod I was using lithium batteries. They had always worked great in my Animas pump and I got a lot more time using them. But they dont work with the Omni. My PDM had some strange occurance one morning (I cant remember exactly what happened) but when I called customer sevice they said that was the problem. Sorry I totally forgot about that problem or I would have mentioned it to begin with.
Batteries are the Energizer E92.....since I changed to these the problems with the PDM tunring off/on has been solved.
- Per tech support you should use neither lithium nor rechargable batteries in the PDM.
- When I used lithiums, the PDM couldn't tell when they were dying, and it just quit one morning when the batteries did die. I loved the long life I got from them, but I stopped using them because the PDM couldn't tell when they were dying.
The diabetes educator told me per Insulet that we were suppose to use Energizer Max. Cub Foods had a sale one them last week. So I got 2 packs of 8 for $10. Not too bad.
Thanks for the tip to not use lithium batteries or rechargeable batteries, my PDM always switches on and off and I thought it was just because of poor product design. I’m guessing it’s because of those rechargeables I’ve been using, I’ll give it a try.
The PDM on/off problem is most likely due to the metal battery contacts in the PDM being just a tad bit too far apart for the brand of batteries you're using; if the batteries are pressing snuggly against those contacts, they can lose contact when jostled and the PDM will cycle onff as a result.
A few people (myself included) have reported success by just prying out those metal contacts ever-so-slightly, just to make the batteries fit a little more snug in between them. Try that and see if it helps.
Thank you for your help but when i called for product support they just told me to send it back and they’ve replaced it. The new one is working fine .
I have used the omnipod for 3 years and I have seriously been through 38 PDM's the systemis all out CRAP. It has almost killed me 24 times. It fails at night and does not alarm. then I wake up with a bg through the roof and ketones off the chart finally my doctor stopped prescribing it to any od her patients. Currently I am tring to switch to the revel

ella if you had that many problems why did you not just switch back to MDI? Was the convience of having a pump worth loosing your life? I’ve been on a pump for over 10 years and would never give mine up but I’ve also never had a serious problem with mine. Its a machine, if it doesnt work give it a reasonable amount of time and move on. Maybe you and minimed will be a better match. But it sounds like you need a cgm more than you need a pump.
