Low blood pressure and glipizide

Anyone else get low blood pressure on glipizide? Seems to not only lower my glucose but also my blood pressure and makes the back of my head throb when I stand too quickly. Tried to research but not finding anything on the blood pressure.

I have no blood pressure problems normally and do run more on the low side.

I am 62 years old, skinny as a rail (BMI 18) and pretty active. Recently diagnosed and started on glipizide 0.5 mg 1/2 tab daily but I am only using 1/4 tab. I had an A1c of 5.7 but very high (300 easily) post prandial sugars. Failed the OGTT at 1/2 and 1 hour but came back into range at 140 at 2 hours. All other labs good, triglycerides were 67, chol and LDL both slightly high

Endo says I’m not insulin resistant (confusing) and he ordered testing for MODY but it also came back negative. He still feels there might be some type of MODY issue and that is why he started the glipizide.

Any thoughts appreciated -

How low is your BP dipping (systolic and diastolic numbers would be appreciated if you have them on hand). Is your hypotension sustained, and if so, for how long on average?

I’ve never heard of Glipizide affecting blood pressure. But diabetes can certain affect blood pressure like you describe. One complication of diabetes is damage to the your nerves and this can cause what is called postural hypotension just as you describe. If you feel lightheaded when getting out of bed you can move from a lying down position to sitting up and giving yourself time to adjust before standing.

Thanks for the reply’s … I will continue to monitor. No it is not sustained, usually lasts around an hour or two about 30 minutes after I take the med. Systolic in the mid 80’s and diastolic in the mid 50’s … then pops back up. I also feel flushed when this occurs. Strange feeling
