I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes a year and a half ago (I was 31 years old). Around that time, I was told my platelet count was low. I’ve been tested since and it’s remained on the low side (low 100,000s).
Does anyone else with T1 have this problem? Is there an autoimmune link?
Thanks!
some researches suggested that type 1 diabetes caused by cow milk ??
Which researchers? Can you post links to sound scientific studies that support such a claim?
And what exactly does this have to do with low platelets?!?!?
There have been some studies that compared risk for Type 1 diabetes in children that were breast fed, vs not breast fed. Claims are that breastfeeding aids the autoimmune system develop in the early months of infancy. I recall a theory (but can’t find reference), the proteins in cow’s milk (for infants) was not recognized as ‘good guys’, and immature/misguided immune system kicked in, taking beta cells along with them.

My mom stopped breastfeeding me earlier than my siblings, due to her breast infection (as recommended by her dr). None of my siblings have T1D. But that could be just coincidence.
As for low platelets, mine have been on the low end of the range (140-190) for as many years that I have records for (about 7). I have reviewed articles that suggest one cause of low platelets may be autoimmune attack. For my lab, 150-450(,000) is normal range. There was never any concern for my borderline low platelets, except during the time I had chemo, and dropped to 80’s. Last test was 143, so just under the normal range, and will have recheck this month. If I was in the 100 range, I’d probably consult with a specialist/hematologist.
