My daughter, who works as a statistician at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, just sent me the following link. She always keeps an eye out for articles on what Mayo is doing in diabetic research, so she directed me to the article that starts on page 20 called, "The Race is On." I thought that you all might find it (and the rest of the magazine) interesting.

I thought it was, too. Mayo will be starting clinical trials on both the artificial pancreas and will continue with the transplants. If I were 29 instead of 59, I would be the first in line saying, "Sign me up!" When I think of how many advances we have made in the last 50 years concerning diabetes, I know that what the Mayo doctors are proposing is both promising and realistic. When I was first diagnosed as a child, my doctor told me, "I think they will cure diabetes in your lifetime." I did not believe him then, but I may have to rethink my doubts now.
