Medical jewelry

I wear one from www.roadid.com when I am out excercising, training dogs, hunting and so forth. I don’t like the “jewelry” looking bracelets. I should probably wear one all the time, but having anything other than a watch on my wrist drives me nuts.

this makes me a bad, bad diabetic, i know, but i don’t wear anything. i go through lots of security everyday at the white house and elsewhere so anything metal is off limits. i have card in my wallet (i think) that says i’m d. still … i’m lucky. never had a problem in all these years so i probably won’t change.

I went to a jeweler and bought a simple silver chain and a small silver medical alert charm that I had engraved with diabetic and my name. I had to search for one that I thought was an acceptable size. I have never been a fan of bracelets, they always got in my way and I am a pretty active individual. It is a personal preference. I don’t take my off and I haven’t had an issues with it. When I was diagnosed I was taught that the EMS crews will check the wrist and the neck for a medical tag. Now they probably check for cell phones and wallets if they can find them as well. My biggest issue with the information not being attached to me is that if it goes flying and isn’t on me how do they find it or know it belongs to me. They need to be able to make decisions as quickly as possible.

That’s the thing – once I get one it has to be durable and something I can wear always. That’s why I was thinking of a ring, because I don’t take certain rings off my fingers, whereas I change necklaces, bracelets, and earrings constantly. Well I used to make jewelry and it’d be cool if I were set up now to do that, but I don’t want to wait till that happens, lol! Maybe sometime in the future I’ll get around to it and add a new place for EMS people to look for…

I wear a bracelet that I picked up at the pharmacy. Removed the chain braclet, went to Michaels, bought some beautiful beads, got stretchy jewelry thread, strung the beads, and then placed on the id tag. This way I can have several (from cheap to more pricey) medical braclets to wear depending on my attire/

Clever!
