i was at a friend’s baby shower and we were all talking about memories we had when we were younger and somehow a memory of me having a low came up. if i were in their shoes i would laugh about it too. even though i know it could have killed me. anyway one time we were all at the movies (back when i was on MDI) and i had a dosage to cover the meal i was going to have. which was some Mexican enchilada thing. anywho we all got into the theater and i started to eat then i just felt funny like my blood sugar was getting low. so i looked over at my friend and started grabbing for her huge cup of coke. i couldn’t talk so i just kept grabbing for her drink and she looked at me and said “no Melissa you have your own drink.” but i kept going for hers knowing i needed instant sugar, then i gave up and started to eat my food then it spilt into my lap and i got up to take it off of my chair and apparently there were people in front of us and i guess i showered them with the food that was spilled according to my friend. anyway my friends realized they needed to get me some food so one of them went to the concessions and got me some candy. i think i remember taking it and eating it. then i passed out and the next thing i knew the movie was almost over and i was really sweaty. i don’t think they knew i had passed out.
again i was still on MDI’s
this was before the theater incident.
another time the same friends and i decided we were going to go sledding because it was the middle of winter and it was late at night. we had been sledding for a couple hours and decided to go home. my friends all piled into one of my friends car and i remember feeling really weak and shaky and looking around realizing everyone was leaving. i basically walked up the hill to where the car was parked and basically fell into the door of the drivers side and was on the ground i couldn’t move because i was so weak, then my friends got out of the car and said ok Melissa let’s get you back to the house. i remembered i had some jolley ranchers in my purse so i started sucking on those to bring my blood sugar up then we got to the house and my best friend was like ok what do you need Melissa ( the same friend that told me it wasn’t my drink), i told her i wanted milk and she gave it to me.
i don’t remember what my levels were for either of those times, but i know that they were scary times.
