MM sensors are bent

Are any of you having problems with your MM Sensors?

I tried inserting a new sensor and it wouldn’t go all the way in so, I tried to manually finish inserting it. When it refused to go in any further, I just took the whole thing out. That’s when I noticed the sensor was bent at the tip. It’s as though the sensor is going in before the needle. So, I tried again with a new sensor and the same thing happened.

I wonder could this be a bad batch? I’ve been using the CGM for two yrs and I’ve never had this problem before.

Hi Sportster,

I have had the same thing happen to me recently, as well as sensors that come out prematurely (not even lasting three days). I know it had been suggested to me to keep them in the fridge, but I haven’t recently, and I wonder if that has ANYTHING to do with the problems I have experienced lately. It’s been frustrating me and so I went without a sensor for a week or so…not the ideal situation there! Good luck with future insertions and keep me posted on how it’s going.

Sportster,

Get a new inserter device. When you have to manually finish the insertion, it is time for a new one. I do not keep my sensors in the fridge. They are in my closet. I did have one bend at the tip on pullling it out. That was just after a manual insertion. I don’t think that I pulled it out, at the same degrees, that I inserted it.

He gr82bteaching,

Yes, it is frustrating and I almost stopped using it also but, I’m so afraid of going low during the night that I put my big girl panties on and tried sticking it in again. LOL

Trisha01,

I actually bought a new inserter about 2 wks ago. I used my old one for 2 yrs and I figured that was the cause of the sensor not going in. But, I’m still having problems. It will insert only about 1/4" and when I try to push it in manually, it just refuses to go in.

I had a problem for awhile of sensors not going all the way in… and if I pushed it in manually, the results were wildly inaccurate.

I guess the “wire” (as I believe Dexcom calls it) has to be perfectly straight after the introducer needle is removed? I’ve only been using the CGM for a couple of months, so I’m still learning the nuances of it.

In any event, I called Medtronic and they sent me a new inserter, free of cost, provided I returned the old one. It seems to work better, but they really shouldn’t fail after 3 months.

I told Medtronics about my inserter’s spring not being strong enough to insert the sensor but, I’ve been having mine for over 2 yrs so, I didn’t expect them to send me a new one. And, these sensors just came in the mail so, they’re not expired.

Maybe, next time I insert one I’ll pay very close attention to the needle and the sensor BEFORE I inject it to see if the wire is exposed pass the needle.

Sportster,

What is the lot number of those sensors? I’ll check mine. I’m due for a new one tomorrow (Friday) evening. if I have that lot number, I’ll use one and see what happens.

Trisha

The lot number is E231. Let me know how it goes.

Dang! I don’t have any with that lot number, sorry. When the next order comes in, I’ll check those as well. That order will be here about the 8th or 9th of August. I’ll keep a lookout and will let you know. Good luck in the meantime.

Trisha

Well, actually I’m glad you don’t have that lot #. I wouldn’t want you to have to stick yourself multiple times! LOL

Thanks. LOL! Actually, I’ve only had pain a few times with insertion. Most of the time, it doesn’t even feel like a pinch. I have a very high tolerance to pain.

Trisha

I wish I had a high tolerance to pain. LOL…every time I have to insert a new one I crinch my eyes and press the button. Lately, I’m having more pain with my insulin pump injections than the CGM. I think I’m hitting little blood vessels. It burns like fire. I woke up this morning with high bg’s and when I changed out the set, the canula was clogged with blood.

Mine got here a couple of days ago. Lot number is not the one you have. Actually, the number is the same, but the letter isn’t. Sorry. Hope you haven’t had any more trouble with them.

Trisha

Thanks for getting back to me, Trisha!

Actually, I’ve inserted a new one since I’ve spoken to you and it inserted with no problems.

Have a good day, Kat
