My husband and I welcomed our daughter (our first child), Sydney Hope, last Monday, Dec. 29, 2008. You can see from my prior blog posts that she was delivered via planned C-section at 38 weeks. She weighed 6 lbs. 12 oz., and measured a little over 20 inches long. And we think she is beautiful! She has a full head of dark hair that is long enough to hang over her ears and an inch down the back of her neck, which explains my bad heartburn during pregnancy (if you believe that old wives' tale). :) She also has very long eyelashes and is just perfect... she scored a "9.9" on her APGAR (I think the neonatal nurse meant somewhere between 9 and 10). Praise the Lord! We feel so blessed that I had good medical care throughout my pregnancy and didn't have any complications from it, like pre-eclampsia (which is fairly common in T1 pregnancies, especially when you've had T1 as long as I have). I am also blessed to have carried Sydney full-term. She is doing very well, and I am recovering well from the surgery. We have a lot to be thankful for!
Above are some pictures. You can see in the second one the look of RELIEF on my face when we were in the OR. Hearing Sydney's little cry as soon as she came out was the most relieving sound I've ever heard.
Thanks to all of you for your kind notes and warm wishes. :)
Congratulations! It makes it all worth it. My T1 pregnancy also resulted in a healthy baby girl, she just turned 2! I am currently working as a lactation consultant if you need any support let me know!
Congrats. Hard work does pay when dealing with diabetes. My granddaughter is now 7 months old and health, my daughter is T1. Blessings to you and your family.
That’s awesome - congratulations. And I hope you aren’t reading this because you should really get some rest. The first 90 days are rough, but believe it or not you will probably look back upon it fondly as a special time.
