I first joined TuDiabetes in the summer of 2008 - back when we had about 3,000 members, I think. I was recently married, dreaming of motherhood, and watching ALL of my friends give birth to beautiful children. I couldn't find anyone in my life who understood the additional hurdle I faced as a type 1 diabetic trying to get my health in order so I could try to conceive safely. My A1c was finally in the 7s after 18 years of floundering in the 8-14% range and struggling for that kind of control, but I was still far from the "below 6.5%" that I needed to achieve to get the green light.
Then I discovered this community. I met women in the same stage as I was and those who were a few steps ahead. I asked questions, I made friends, and I finally got the green light four months later with an A1c of 6.1%. Nine frustrating months after that, we finally conceived. And nine months after that, with A1cs in the 5s the whole pregnancy, BabyBL has made her entrance into the world.
Congratulations on bambino! She’s beautiful and you should be proud of all the hard work you’ve endured to bring her into this world. Enjoy! The ride ahead of you is crazy, but I wouldn’t change a thing.
