NBC News shows a doctor with a Dexcom CGM hooked up to an IPHONE!

Is this available? You have to go to the segment where the doctor starts to eat tortilla chips:

I've looked everywhere on the internet. It appears that the only app available right now is one that just gives you information and education about Dexcom and cgm. But in this segment, the doctor is actually looking at his iphone and seeing his blood sugar number! does anyone have any insight into this???

Tx, the segment you mentioned appears to show a working prototype of their next gen5 system which is meant to use smartphones as a receiver. Pretty cool to think it won't take forever for Gen5 to become available.

Awesome to see. This has changed my strategy completely -- forget the animas ping (or other integrated pumps). I'm going to figure out the best pump on its own merits, and pair that with the eventual g5 on my phone. And until then, the g4 is not a huge burden, compared to the 7.

I guessed this was dexcom when I saw the clip on NBC, as the doctor was in San Diego which is where Dexcom is located. Here is the response I received from them when I asked when I could order one:
Thank you for contacting us about the news clip Dr. Topol was featured on. While this technology is very exciting, at this time, this product is not FDA approved, but is a future product consideration. We don’t have a timeline on when it would be submitted to the FDA for approval, therefore, we don’t know when it would be commercially available.

If I can be of further assistance to you, please let me know.
Enjoy your day,
Dona

Fwiw, this doesn't appear to be an iphone -- it's a sony ericsson of some vintage. Presumably an Android? I couldn't tell for sure, they have Android versions and windowsPhone versions. But, it would make little to no sense for Dexcom to pick the newcomer (windows) over android and iphone.

I have been on the Animas "ping" for the past 4 yrs and it didn't seem much better than than the older Animas models. Anyway, my warranty ran out Dec 2011 and after lots of research on the latest & greatest avail. in USA, (got tired of waiting for Animas CGM/pump or Navigator, that are avail. in Europe) I discovered a great opportunity...OmniPod has a "Cut the Cord" promotion to current pumpers. It's $199 to try out the OmniPod (only if ordered thru Insulet) and they will NOT run it thru your insurance, in order to avoid "using up" your standard insurance coverage of "once every 4 yrs" for an insulin pump. That way your not stuck with a system you don't like or is not worth the expensive pods, for 4 yrs. I'm on my 3rd pod and so far, I love it!...I had forgotten how easy it was to get dressed or go to the bathroom without a pump attached!

I am also getting the Dexcom g4 any day now (had the 7+ and was not impressed: often inaccurate, recharging was a pain, and not MAC compatible!). I'm hoping to utilize my arm sites with the pods, now that I'm tubeless, and use the sensors on abdomen and hips as needed.
