So I received an email the other day about a rebate where we can get the new Dexcom G4 in so we can be prepared for the Animas Vibe when it arrives since it utilizes the Dexcom G4 technology for CGMs... Anybody got this email and have looked into and can explain anything to me?
It’s a marketing promotion, there is a $200 Dexcom rebate right now if you buy both items (G4 and Ping). The Vibe has been submitted to the FDA but don’t get excited yet it’s still going to be a while. If you are under warranty with your Ping when it does come out you can upgrade for $99.

Aww I'm sorry! I wish it would hurry up too, not that it's been in use in the rest of the world for a LONG while now or anything...I get the FDA has their standards and policies to keep us safe which is great; but sometimes I just don't understand what the hold up is.
A lot of us have been waiting for the Animas Vibe a long time.
I spoke with Animas this morning because I had already upgraded to the Dexcom G4 last November and currently use the Ping pump. The rebate is available to people who get a G4 between 1/1/2013 and 4/30/2013 and either have a Ping in warranty or buy one.
The $99.00 upgrade price for the Animas Vibe is available to anyone using the G4 that has a Ping in warranty. Basically if you already have both and your Ping is still in warranty when the Vibe comes out, you can get it for $99.00. There is one catch with the upgrade price; your new Vibe will only carry the remaining portion of your current Ping's warranty. So instead of getting the full warranty, if your Ping is only under warranty for another two years, that's all you will get on the new Vibe.
Insurance will cover a new pump typically after it is out of warranty (or some like mine will cover it every 3 years even though the warranty is for 4), SO if you pay the 99 for X amount of time then yes it's 99 out of pocket but it's not a terrible amount of money considering. Each person will need to evaluate for themselves if/when it ever does come if they want to pay the $99 for however long they have left.
As I'm meeting my Animas rep tomorrow to consider purchasing a ping, he mentioned to me that they don't think it will be out until after May... Don't mean to crush any more hopes.
I just heard that it was announced at the Animas sales conference that the Vibe has been submitted to the FDA!!!! Let's hope it goes as fast as the Dexcom 4 wehioch I hear got approved in 6 months! I wish there was someone we could write to in a campaign for fast approval.
I don’t see why it should take so long for Vibe to get approved because all it is, is combining too already approved devices in one device; the ping and the dexcom combined
I have a neighbor in the medical device biz. (Nothing dealing with Diabetes, dammit ,or I could get free stuff) Anyway, she was impressed with how fast the Dex4 got through. In the industry it is highly unusual for devices to get through the FDA in under a year. I am hoping that like you said, it is the combining of 2 already approved devices will aallow it through the process quickly. I jsut wish that the "street cred" the Vibe has in Europe was also taken into account.
