A c-peptide is a common lab test - I even got one in Guatemala. The only catch would be if your insurance won't cover it. I've heard some people who have had Type 1 for a long time say their insurance wouldn't pay for it at this time in their treatment. On the other hand, I believe Medi-care requires it for pump coverage.
Gosh, I have never had a c-peptide test. I read on Diabetes Forcast that it is not widely used, yet recommended that if done, it should be done at the same lab with the same method used. Why?
I will see if my insurance will cover it, and ask my Endo if he will order it. I think it more important than an A1C.
Thank you Zoe
Labs seem to vary. When I had mine done the endo I talked with preferred a different lab so I did it a second time and the two numbers (close together in time) were .38 and .70.
I don't think there's much point in doing it regularly like you do an A1C to check ongoing blood sugars, but it's good to get a baseline and then see how it's changed down the road. For me it was part of the process of correcting my misdiagnosis as a Type 2. The low c-peptide wasn't definitive but was one factor that together all pointed clearly to type 1.
thank you for the tips, i agree with you about the cgm not being super accurate, but if it gives me a snapshot without me having to get up from my desk just to go check my BG in the bathroom why not?
At home i don't care, i can check anytime with my glucometer. Which CGM do you have? what brand?
What can i do to avoid BG fluctuations? because i am getting a lot of them right now and i am freaking out.
After you've been at this awhile, DW, you will find you just take a minute and check at your desk (or wherever) when necessary.
I will ask my super hot Endo if he will marry me, uh, I mean if he will order a c-peptide test. I go in for labs next week. I think I am a type 1 misdiagnosis. The word, "diagnosis" means 2 that don't know!
:) Thanks
I think the likely-hood of my Endo ordering a c-peptide test, or re-diagnosing me,,, is about as likely as him accepting my proposal of marriage. :) Ya never know
LOL. What do you mean "type 1 misdiagnosis"?
The day will come when I get the diagnosis, non-diabetic! I do think it is funny, when I go to the pharmacy to pick up insulin and test strips, that they require an updated diagnosis from my doctor. It will sure be great to go to the pharmacy to pick up insulin and test strips, and be told... no, you cannot have any insulin, you are Not a Diabetic! The pharmacy often behaves like I am some kind of junkie trying to get insulin for no good reason. Would I ever love to have no good reason for insulin.
In some ways it's sad, and it is true, "people don't pay attention to other people as we think they do",
I check my bg any time, anywhere, any place... the worse was when the CGM would lose connection with my insulin pump, and the panic alarm would go off... panic alarms are not good for a diabetic self esteem, or a diabetic attempting to be secretive. The alarm would give me panic attacks, heart palpitations, and sudden sweating. I felt low, I felt high, I had no idea what was going on. And nobody paid attention.
I have a Medtronic MiniLink REAL-Time Transmitter, links to the Medtronic OneTouch UltraLink, and the Medtronic MiniMed PARADIGM Insulin Pump, uses the Medtronic SOF-SENSOR Glucose Sensor's.
Ha, Ha, Ha... REAL-Time Transmitter... :)
How to avoid Bg fluctuations? Get off Insulin!
Avoid processed foods, eat nothing from a package, or a can. Avoid any food that comes with a label saying how many carbs are in it. Eat local grown, organic food. Don't drink beer, or stay up late. Avoid meat and dairy.
Get an autologous islet cell transplant. Or regenerate your beta cells yourself.
IDK,,, get on a insulin pump and CGM?
Eat as much ding dong's,twinkies, cheetoes,c'ptn crunch as you want.
Peace
I'm confused Turtle Dove. You are diagnosed as Type 1? So what re-diagnosis are you expecting? Are you really expecting to reverse your Type 1 diagnosis?
Even if the idea of having a cure for diabetes seems unreal.
We are much closer to a cure now because of technology improvements. As we enter the Nano technology age, things that would take 50 years to discover will take 5 to 10 years.
I would also not be surprised if 50 years from now all our body parts will be replaced by same organic parts. if they can grow skin, they will be able to grow organs too.
I know it sounds crazy, but remember 200 or 300 years ago, the idea of replacing our insulin probably sounded crazy too.
No highs today... so no complaints...
my appointment with Endo is tomorrow.
Can't wait.
Yep! I was diagnosed T1 at age 8, T1 for 29 almost 30 years. I want to go to my Endo and have him say, we reviewed your labs, and our mistake, you do not have diabetes T1, it is my childhood, pre-teen, adolescent, young adult, now adult dream,,, a dream continued since age 8 when I lay in hospital bed with IV's and first heard, you are type 1 child-hood, type 1, insulin dependant Diabetic! Still in my heart, I think it is possible to reverse Type 1 diabetes! 15 yo me, 20 yo me, 25 yo me, 30 yo me, 35 yo me, 40 yo me, 45 yo me, 50 yo me, 55 yo me, 60 yo me, 65 yo me, 70 yo me, 75 yo me, 80 yo me, 85 yo me, 90 yo me, and 99 year old me visited 8 year old me when I lay in that hospital bed at onset and diagnosis, and said, it is all a dream, dream big, dream the cure and be the cure! Today my heart is still beating, and I was shown my heart will beat until age 99. So I follow my heart, and listen to my heart,,, I will live a long long time, like a turtle,,, Yes, I will reverse this diagnosis, and I will die... a 99 year old type 1 diabetic.
My love to : Banting, Macleod, Best and Collip who invented the process for insulin in 1922 which became the treatment for diabetes.
I applied for the MN clinical trial of the islet stem cell transplant,,, although I qualified, they already had the participants for the trial. They told me by 2014 it will be available.
Until then,,, my friend,,, there is NOW! No Other Way... N.O.W! We will see technological advancement, we will see and be the cure! There are also Earth ways! We are the ones we have been waiting for!!!

I cannot afford Tree of Life Rejuvenation Center, I would very much like to go, but too much money! I do have friends in MN, The Will Heal Farm, they grow their own organic food, Medicine! This summer I will go 2-3 days a week to camp on the farm, grow the foods and herbs, and enjoy the nature and peace of being on the farm. Already I have gone from 70 units of insulin a day to 20. I may never completely get off insulin. But, my concern is to feel good, to love life! To live long, that is my goal!
Yippeee!!! Congrats to you!!!
Today, I left the house with low insulin reservoir, meant to change before I left, then was gonna take supplies with me and forgot them! I work 40 miles from home, had enough insulin to cover 30 gram carb lunch. Pump ran out at 4pm. Had a business meeting at 6pm, and ate a bowl of garden veggie soup. By the time I got home, Bg - 446, my eyes were twitching, had to pee, felt like ants were crawling on my skin!!!! Fraggin Freggin Frack,,, looks like I am still T1 insulin dependant Diabetic!!! From now on I will leave a vial of insulin, infusion set and reservoir at my work. I have learned to ride the waves! I do love insulin, oh you sweet vial of clear fluid, how I love thee!!!
It will be interesting to hear about your appointment!
Welcome to the family :)You just have to adjust and change of lifestyle. I have been a diabetic since i was 6 and i even joined cheer leading while in school and now i'm currently training for basic safety course which is more stressful and more activities. When i'm in training i make sure i have my meter with me, my insulin and a soda just in case i'll have a hypoglycemia attack. Programming isn't that stressful, its just you were not well at that time and you need more adjustments and awareness on how you're gonna deal with diabetes. you just have to carry your meter and insulin wherever you are and let your people know your condition so they know what to do in case of emergency. Lifestyle change, diet and exercise is a big help for us too, so be more active and don't worry too much about this,it would be easier for us to accept the fact that we are special and this diabetes teach us also the value of discipline :0 God bless you
well said, let's pray for each other ald keep the faith! :)
