New Omnipod PDM

I have 2 PDM’s and they both are doing this and the rep for my area who is also diabetic said the same about his. This apparently is a minor problem with these but will be corrected with the new unit. The current setup is the original prototype and after 4 years all of the previous problems are supposed to be corrected with the new setup.

I have been on the Pod for a month now. I have been on every traditional tubing pump out there and absolutely love the Pod. I was having irritation problems from the adhesive and also where the cannula went in would bleed and get infected. After talking with the nurse at Insulet and my local nurse we got everything resolved. First they told me to put a piece of ice where the cannula would go in and hold for a couple of minutes which restricts the blood flow to the veins in that area. Second they had me try IV3000 1Hand which provided a barrier between me and the Pod. This fixed all of the problems but the other day I was working in the yard and when I got hot started sweating the Pod almost fell off. I called again about this and they told me to try IV Prep or Mastisol before applying the IV3000 1Hand. I did that today and so far so good. Hope this helps.

I found out last week that the new Pod will be 50% smaller in size and 30% lighter.

I started on the Pod 2 weeks ago…no sticking buttons. Maybe they’ll give you a new PDM.

Mick, the new PDM manual p140 gives the impression there will be a strip light:

"When your PDM alerts you that battery power is getting
low, the PDM will maximize remaining battery life by:
• Turning off your vibration alert (if set)
• Disabling bright mode
Disabling the test strip port light
Once the batteries are replaced, these functions resume.

Do you know when these new pods might start to be distributed?

Finally! Damn, the one I’m using now is so ghetto. Welcome to 2009.

are you getting the line in the top left corner that is there off and on?

it blows my mind that you can rock video games on a PSP in an airplane or download an app to your iPhone that’ll crack the Enigma code while teaching you how to make duck confit in a convection oven but my PDM still looks and acts like it does. how about some dignity for us diabetics. you think Frankenstein’s monster liked having all those nasty stitches all over his face? (just to clarify, the PDM is the monster not diabetics and it need to see a plastic surgeon) no! i didn’t think so either! Well i don’t like having to carry around a lame, clunk PDM that looks like some prop Shatner used in the original Star Trek series! it’s about time Insulet at least tries to make the thing look cool. hey how about adding an IR sensor that can send results to your Mac?!? sorry for the rant but we shouldn’t be forced to live in the stone age of technology cause we have diabetes!
