Smaller PDA

Anyone hear any buzz about the new smaller PDA??? I thought it was suppose to come out at the beginning of the year…obviously not. For that matter…when are the new smaller pods coming?? I hear that may be next year.

My diabetes educator told me that the new PDM is supposed to be coming out in late May or early June and it will have a colored screen. The new, smaller pod is supposedly coming early next year. I wish that Insulet would fix the IOB feature of the PDM, but I still love my pod anyways.

I think the IOB is supposed to be fixed in the new PDA…hmmmm. At least I hope so:)

I had two pods that failed to communicate out of my last box and when I reported them last week… I asked the customer service rep about the new PDM.

She said that she did not know when it is coming out but there was a notice in the office about an upcoming training they had to go to and the office people all thought that it was about the new PDM.

I’ve been told to expect it in about a month.

Nancy,

This is supposed to be a picture of it.

I don’t know- I must have bad breath or something. The only times I’ve asked about them, I was told that “I can’t talk about that with you”.
Did ya’ll send them a box of cookies or something?

I do not like how it looks! :frowning:

Yep…I have seen these photos before…maybe you posted them somewhere else on here. It’s better then what we have now that’s for sure!! Thanks!

Unfortunately, I don’t think that PDA is any smaller than what we’re using now. Someone posted the dimensions awhile back, and it’s basically the same. As I recall, it added a vibrate function and some other small changes, but nothing earth shattering. A color screen is not really a big deal unless new functionality utilizes it.

it looks to be a lower profile though…thinner…don’t you think? Maybe I’m just wishing:)

This past weekend I spoke to the folks at Insulet at an ADA expo was was told the new PDM will be out in June.

On a previous visit I held it in my hand and there is quite a difference it is not as boxy and thick as the current PDM. The pictures can be deceiving it looked really slick to me.

I also asked about the smaller pods and was told sometime 2010. They are expected to be 40% smaller than the current pods which will be great.

Hope the update helps.

My insulet rep told me that they still hadn’t been given release dates so it probably wouldn’t be until fall for the PDA and the pods are months behind that. I wouldn’t hold your breath.

I wish we could get some pictures of what the new pods might look like.

Hi everyone,
Great news! I was at the Dr yesterday and they had the new PDM. They are going to start giving them out to new patients in June. They said upgrades will be available after that. They said cost may be around $150.00, but also said that the company will be giving thier office a supply of them to do what they want with them. My pump coordinater said they will probably give me one free. How great is that!. On the pro and con side, the new screen is great and the new software will use a regular USB cable, no longer wireless downloads. Also the new software downloads 90 days , not just the last 4 days as now. There are also tons of new charts and records to print. This is all what I saw with my own eyes no rumors or speculations. I also held the new PDM in my hands and went through the functions. Thats the con for me, I was disappointed in the size, it’s not much smaller than the old PDM, just a tad bit thinner, but any improvement is better than none. Also there is a small light that shines on the test strip, for all of us that test BG in the dark, I thought that was a bit foolish.
I hope this helps clear up some of the rumors and confusion about the new pod situation. I manage my care at the Joslin Center, they are great and seem to have the most current info.
Take care everyone.
Matt

So I guess the new screen is not color then? As for the light on testing I really like that feature half my testing seems in the dark and when im low that really helps me. I would rather have had a built in CGM like the navigator in the new PDM now that would have really Rocked but baby steps I guess even slimmer a light and usb with better software will make me happy! thanks for the info Oh and they could have throw in a Wifi connection so I could surf the net and watch Youtube while I bolus!

Ok…Just talked to my OmniPod rep. The new PDM will be out the first week in June!!! Costs $49 to up-grade for current users. You can…repeat CAN keep your current PDM as a back up. The new screen IS color. Also asked about the IOB feature; and was told that for some reason, the FDA would not approve their proposed improvements.

I think that I read somewhere on here that Deltec got into some trouble years back for copying the way Medtronic figures IOB. I am not sure about that. But that could be the reason Insulet figures IOB the way they do.

Anyone please correct me or shed more light.

More confirmations! I had an appointment yesterday with my diabetes educator. I have begun the process of getting set up with the omnipod. Super excited! Anyways, I inquired about the new PDM timeframe. I did not want to get trained on the old one only for the new one to come out a week later. She called the rep. and got the scoop. The new PDM will be unveiled to the public next week and will be available in June. I was told that the new design looks more like a blackberry and will feature a color screen along with new software.

Also, I have been reading posts for a while now, but have not introduced myself. This group has been very helpful in my decision to start the omnipod. Thanks everyone!

This might be the new PDM
