New Pods: Difference in Basal Rates?

Hi All. We got the new pods & PDM today, yeah!! My 8 year old son is going to Diabetes Camp on Sunday, and I really want him to take the new system. I was wondering if anyone has had to adjust basal rates on the new system, or did all of your settings transfer easily? Thanks! jen

I have left all of my settings the same. I want to go through a box of the new ones before I make a change (which will also be about the time Im due to go for my A1c)

Transferring settings is a piece of cake...insulet sends out a guide with the new PDM

The only thing I have decided to change is the insulin action time. We were set at 3 hours, but it was often subtracting too much insulin when my son would bolus - since it now subtracts meal insulin as well. We changed the insulin action time to 2 1/2 hours. So far so good but I only did that 2 days ago . . . He was just going high too much.

Just curious, does he think it feels any different on the new pod changes? I cant describe it, but my last 2 changes just dont feel the same.

Again..im on new pod 4...maybe it just takes getting used to

On the old system, I had much higher basal rates that my Ping pump (like, a good 10-20% higher). With the new pod system, they are pretty much the same thing at my Ping. I don't know if it has to do with how it's delivered now or what, but it does seem to be different for me.

I'm on pod 1, it felt a little different... if anything even less violent / painful (not that it was to begin with!)

hi all,

is the new system available in Canada yet? I just got my form signed and waiting for a pump training date. sooooo excited, they have been telling me however that it is not yet in Canada. I was hoping I would start with the new system.

Thanks in advance

Sarah

good to here this feed back, Jacob was set for 3 1/2 insulin action time and I was thinking of changing it for the same reason, we have just been adjusting up for his doses if there is a lot of insulin on board, but Jacob doesn't always think outside the box when I am not around so now I feel better about making the change I think we will start with 3 hours.... other than that the transition was very easy no change in settings Jacob is very happy with the smaller pods, I am hoping for less occlusions with the new system. Jen, good luck with the transition! one thing that others have suggested is that the new pods do a very small bolus at prime we have been doing a smaller post pod change bolus and no issues with pod change highs!

He told me he hasn't decided yet. :) He's probably on pod 5 - so you are on about the same schedule.

HI Jacobs Mom - do you mean that the new pods automatically give a small bolus at prime, whereas the old pods did not?

hi jen, when I called omnipod they said, no but the rep didn't seem knowledgeable about the new pods, I thought I read this somewhere or saw it in the instructional videos kind of funny if this is true because they didn't seem to speak much to the highs after pod change problems and now they are trying to address it now.... in anycase I would have to reread the literature or ask for a clinical specialist at omnipod to confirm this, did you guys do a bolus post pod change before?? if you did just try 1/2 of what you did before and see how it goes.... again this is working well for Jacob, best of luck, amy

hey dishers - I don't think it is yet, but I'm in Maryland :) Contact your local rep who can let you know!
