New Ways Of Getting Insulin "In"

Just saw this article in the L.A. Times:

http://www.latimes.com/health/la-he-insulin-delivery-20100816,0,4580637.story?page=1&utm_medium=feed&track=rss&utm_campaign=Feed%3A%20latimes%2Fmostviewed%20%28L.A.%20Times%20-%20Most%20Viewed%20Stories%29&utm_source=feedburner

Anyone out there ever try Exubera before it was pulled off the market?

The ability to get a faster-acting delivery route would be awesome…but you’ll probably never get the fine (0.05U) increments that you can get with a pump. I also think they’ll all fall into same pit that Exubera did - insurance companies won’t pay for them without a battle (or the patient paying for pulmonary function tests). I would also personally wait until there is sufficient data to fully resolve the lung cancer issue (even though I have never smoked and the 6 cases in the Exubera trials did).

I know… really glad that insulin exists in the meanwhile.

God I hope that inhaled insulin, if they ever get it to work, doesn’t taste the way it smells! Retch!
