Nutritional information at Resturants. The good, bad and the ugly?

It really SUCKS to go into a resturant and not be accomadated with Nutritional information ie: # of Carbs. Most of the places that I’ve gone dont have it. But there are some bright spots.
GOOD:
Au Bon Pain- Had an electronic nutritional look-up machine. Very convienent.
Subway- Handed me a very helpful packt of info.
D’Angelo’s- The manager looked up the carbs for me and gave me the #.

BAD:
Friday’s, Olive garden & Applebee’s all told me to "Look online when I get home.

How about you? What good and bad experiences do you have with getting nutrtional info from resturants on the spot?

I have yet to be at a resturant that has this type of info. Sure would be nice though.

Some of the companies are purposely elusive on this subject matter…It’s really a matter of empowerment…if they don’t have the info…I turn around and don’t eat there. If enough health-conscious people were to do this…the companies will begin to understand. I may not have a lot of money, but my dollars are powerful and I control them when I can… Good post.

I don’t eat out at chain restaurants that much, but I got a Calorie King book at a workshop a while back and it has nutrition info for pretty much everything. It’s a small book and a good size to take w/ you if you eat out a lot. Their website also has all the same info, so if you have a web enabled phone you can look stuff up pretty easily. When you see the nutrition facts it’s easy to understand why the restaurants would rather not volunteer the info!

I went to The Keg steakhouse for my parents birthday and forgot to look up the info. When I got there she said they should have a book in the back. She came back to me and said there is NO book.

Now I may be wrong, but I was told that it was law to have nutritional info in Canadian restaurants…I was pissed, so I had to guesstimate.

I hate looking up on line, because I don’t know what I"m going to feel like when I get there. Plus then I look like a dweeb with pages of nutritional info and the menu at the table trying to figure out what to eat.

It completely sucks! It’s insane to think of how many people (aside from diabetics) have to deal with food allergies and things like that and it’s surprising at how few resturants offer nutritional information. I was at Panera and asked if they had any information for me and she said no but then found the manager and the manager pulled out this HUGE binder (that was falling apart) and she said I could look through it. Practical, aye? I have looked online prior to eating out and that’s okay, annoying but okay. It sure would make eating out a lot easier as a TI diabetic.

I figure we can work together to put a # on the grams of carbohydrate of some of the foods of some of the restaurants. I went to Perkins last evening. Their blueberry muffin, of which 1/3 was consumed this morning must have 80 - 90 grams, based on my response what I ate! Finally, we could have a chart.

PS. I’ve been writing to some of them online to see if they would just put even their carbs grams online. Sure help to have fat, too, of course. I can see where national chains have different sources so it may be difficult.Maybe we could suggest they start with their rolls, then their entrees with breading on the chicken, then … My drift is getting driftier.
