Nuts - raw or roasted

Just heard a customer at Whole Foods say that raw nuts are better than roasted nuts. What do you all think? Thanks.

I think it depends on how they are roasted, sometimes extra fat is added and maybe salt and some flavouring, but if they are just heated until lightly toasted I think raw and roasted are no different.

I think it depends on the nut!

What do you mean, Karen57? What nuts shouldn’t be roasted?

Well; Sometimes you feel like a roasted nut, some times you don’t.
I did not say any nut shouldn’t be roasted. I said it depends on the nut. What I mean is that it depends on the nut which could mean the actual nut or the one eating it. What the nut, er rather nut consumer prefers is all that matters in my mind. LOL

 Thanks all. Salt, no salt may be a matter of health and personal preference. I was wondering if anyone knows whether the roasted (“cooked”) may be nutritionally better than raw or vice versa. This may not be the best example: Extra virgin olive oil heated to high can release toxins. When nuts are roasted, could they become “toxic” ? Just curious.
Roasting nuts and seeds reduces the antioxidants and healthful fats slightly, but it doesn’t turn them into bad foods.

I usually get raw nuts without salt, except for peanuts I get those roasted with salt, mostly because it’s very hard to find raw peanuts. I have stomach issues and un roasted is better usually imo because the fats they roast them in are sometimes the bad ones.
