Omnipod + Dex?

Does anyone out there use the Omnipod and the Dex?? I am toying between the Omni or the Minimed WITH the CGM. I just hate the idea of a cord attached to me!!! So, I’ve concluded the potential of the Omni + Dex. Anyone out there who uses this combo, can you please let me know how you like it? Ups, downs? If the Dex is worth it??

THANK YOU!!!

I use the omnipod and the freestyle navigator, and I love the combo. There are others in the Omnipod group who use the pod and the dex, so you might want to check it out. And I’m sure those same folks are active in the Dexcom group too. If you already don’t like the idea of tubing, I think the pod and “something” (whatever CGM you go with) is going to be your best bet. You might try seeing if your doc has one that you can trial, or if he/she can get you in contact w/ each of the company’s reps…they may have a loaner version that you can actually mess with so you could see how you like each one. And to answer your question, I think my pump and CGM combo are totally worth it

Dex and POD are the way to go, I LOVE the DEX and the control of the Pump… Once they get them integrated, I will be much happier… The sensors last WAY more than 7 days and stay accurate for most of the time…

I posted a thread on the OmniPod forum about weather or not the CGM is worth it…
you can find my thread here

I would reccomend joining the OmniPod group even if you aren’t on the system yet, if you have questions and concerns, you’ll have a great group of people willing to help at your fingertips.

Personally, my next step is to give the Dex a go!

Bradford, thanks so much for your response  I’ve heard really good things about the navigator. I have an appointment on Wednesday and we are going to further discuss the options. I’ve worn the Omnipod as a trial and thought it would be great. I think I just need to make the decision!

Good to know! I thought it sounded like a great combo. Keep me updated on your progress with the two of them syncing together!! Thanks

My daughter uses both. She is 6. We love both! Dex isn’t always 100% accurate but is SO helpful. It alarms me at night and during the day at times when I didn’t even realize she was low, or would be low! She hates carrying the Dex PDM around because she isn’t used to carrying the Omnipod PDM…I carry it. Other than that, she has total freedom from tubes! They are also going to be integrated to one machine very soon. They are just awaiting FDA approval so it should just be a couple of months or so.

Wow, what great news!!! That will be the day when they’re synced together in one little PDM. Thanks for your feedback–I’m thinking they both are the way to go!!

Thanks Maia. I’m taking a look at the thread. It all seems like such a great idea to use both. Why not, ya know? I’ll be in touch! Can’t wait to hear how it all goes.

i have both and LOVE it! i tried the minimed CGM during my trial at the endo’s office and didn’t like it. the sides weren’t completely taped down like the dexcom sensor is, and i had to wear a tegaderm patch over it. not comfortable at all, plus it was a royal PITA to clean the residue after removing it.

unfortunately, due to my insurance coverage changing, i can no longer afford the pods. i’ll miss the tubeless feature, but i am still sticking with the dexcom.

I felt the same way about the cord before i got it! But then i talked to my endo and she said that until they work out all the “bugs” of the omnipod that i should get a medtronic. Compared to shots i love it! plus soon nobody will have to have a pump with a cord.

Thank you so much Faye! That is really encouraging. I’m sorry you have to switch pumps, but it’s great that you’re sticking with the Dex–it must be wonderful. Take care of yourself!

Sydney, I definitely think I should keep an open mind. I think every endo will have their own opinion. I have a meeting on Wed. so we’ll see what he thinks. You’re right, thankfully soon all pumps will be wireless! Good luck
