Went to the doctor on Tesday he was very pleased with my b/s numbers. I’m down to the 120’s in the morning, I was up in the 300’s 3 weeks ago. I will keep taking the metformin & glimeperide. I feel much better, except for the occasional hot flash about an hr after I take the medication. Doc says thats common.
I need to get back to the gym, I had late meetings 3 nights this week so the gym was not happening. Next week should be better.
I’m still working on which food does and doesnot spike my blood sugar. Next week one of the local hospitals is having a information meeting for diabetics I plan on going to see what info they have to offer.
It’s crazy I want to loose weight and bring down my b/s numbers but this thing called diabetes demands that my whole day now revolves around making food choices. How does a Celt not become obsessed about food when diabetes demands that I think about food all day long.
I think you will find the info at the hospital very informative, not sure what your classes are like but here we got to talk to a nurse who specialises in diabetes, and a dietician. At first it may seem overwhelming but if you take what they teach you and follow their advice soon you will be able to tweak it to fit you to a Tee!
We also had the option of going to the “heart healthy class” If you have those and are able… go to those too because it also applies to diabetics.
And what ever you do… even if its just walking… exersize!!! it brings those numbers down big time and keeps your circulation going! I cant stress enough to you how important that is!
Good luck! I am here to assist if need be!
PS I am of irish decent…and yes I can still eat a potato… so long as it is baked and not over cooked.
Well, Celt, it’s a time thing. If you’ve only been doing this for three weeks, and have that good of results, HURRAH! Now to the obsessive thing about foods, once you get used to what you can eat, and can’t…and in some cases it’s different for all of us. I have friends who can eat milk chocolate and never show a rise, me, I just look at it or smell it, and my numbers zoom up. I don’t know how you are managing your meals, but after 11 years, it still helps me to make a semi-menu plan for each week. I know the protein I will eat, and what we are going to do with it. We used to eat out about 4 x a week, now it’s down to 1x…simply because I have learned to cook much healthier and it’s more fun, my dh is a chef who is trying very hard to help me, and himself in our quest for healthier eating. I also keep a daily record of what I’ve eaten, and if there is a special event coming up, I write than in, so I can adjust my food to that. And then it’s done…I eat a baked potatoe every now and then, no butter and yogurt or blended cottage cheese in sted of sour cream. I’ve lost 70 lbs in the last 2 years…it’s been great for the diabetes and blood pressure. Well worth those trips to the gym and watching my carbs. Good luck to you, you are doing super!
