Hi tiffany,
i also i have the samething that happenes to me… sometimes it does it because the site is in a spot that has been used a couple of times or when blood fills in the tube.
so when changing this sites make sure there is no marks from when you pervious used the spot. or somewhere where he feels more comftable having it. thats what i do.
but hope some of my tips help you or mabey even a little.
Hope everything is well for you both!
thank you to everybody for alot l of your suggestions and didnt have much success but we are very happy to be back to using the omni pod. we like this pump alot better. it is so much easier to use and no more buring during the boluses.
I have the Ping, and one thing I do is to do a combo bulus with either 35-40% now, and the rest over the next 1/2 hr. That way only 4-9 units to most are sent.
What others have said - change it to slow delivery. We got a replacement pump once and I was setting up everything again and my son complained immediately because I had the delivery faster than his old pump.
Wow! I have had my 2020 for almost three years and didn’t know about the “slow” setting. Thanks!
I know this is an old post, and I’m hoping this may have been resolved by now, but have you tried using a shorter cannula? The pain may be caused by the insulin being delivered too close to muscle. If the cannula is too long for his body, this may be the case. Try seeing if they’ll send you samples of different sets to try out and see which one works best for him. Sorry about manually pulling out the needle though - that part can’t be avoided unless he goes to a steel cannula.
In addition to the “slow” setting, my daughter often does a combo blous over 6 minutes. That’s the shortest length possible. She says it hurts to insert more than about 2 units, but this takes care of the problem. You set a percentage that you want inject right away, and the remaining is injected in small increments evenly over the remainder of the time.
This may sound silly, but my friends make fun of me because I have a bolus ritual. I replied to your post yesterday, but forgot about my bolus ritual, it may help. My site also burns when the insulin goes in, no matter how little the amount. My settings are on slow and when I do the combo bolus for 30 minutes, my sugar ends up sky high after I eat and takes a while longer to level out.
Anyway, here is my ritual.
When ever I bolus, I try not to sit down, for some reason, it burns worse while sitting, I walk around at a fast pace to take my mind off of the sting and then I simultaneously rub or massage my site firmly while it’s going in, sometimes patting it at a rapid pace helps as well.
I hope this helps Well, at least until we figure out why it burns.
