Pancreatitis caused diabetes?

I’m a newbie, only two days old to my new Diabetic world. In 2000, 7 weeks after giving birth to my daughter, I suffered from Acute Pancreatitis caused by gallstones. (I subsequently had my gallbladder removed) I was very sick and in ICU for a little over two weeks. I had been having gallstone attacks(undiagnosed) for almost two years prior to this final attack that sent me to the hospital.
My question is, could these gallstone attacks, (I was told at that time that gallstones were doing something to my pancreas causing the severe pain during attacks) since they went on for so long, have caused my gestational and now most-likely T2, diabetes? I was just wondering if any of you might know. I want to learn everything there is to know about my condition and I have to wait ten days before I go back to the Dr!
BTW, thanks for all the GREAT info on this board, you guys have already answered so many of my inquiries!

Don’t wait 2 weeks to learn more about T2. If you’re connected up to the internet, look at BloodSugar101.com Anything that affects the pancreas’ Islets of Langerhans will affect your ability to process glucose. Meanwhile, read up on it! Then you’ll have some good questions lined up.
And welcome to this site! Glad you found it!
